Just wondering if a gearbox which was from an eg vti with a d16y1
straight fit a ek vti with a d16y5
also what were the main differences in the motors?
as i just read that d16y1 is 96kw
    while d16y5 is 88kw
anyway more keen on gbox answer thanks

gearbox out of a eg vti will fit, but the gearing is slightly different between it and the ek vti. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are the same ratios but 4th and 5th are shorter in the VTi box. Just keep the ratios in mind.

There is very little information on auto boxes but I know the EG boxes are bigger than the earlier model boxes and whilst they may fit onto the D Series engine, fitting the box to the earlier chassis is not possible without major surgery. I'd say that if the two boxes have the same ID then you have no problems, especially if you are sticking with the EG/EK chassis.

Auto ? Yes it will fit / suit.

I've fit a ek1 auto box to a Eg gli with alittle wiring playing around.

Mechanically they are compatible - some earlier gearbox outer cases are actually slightly larger in size too ( not sure if it gives issues between Eg and ek chassis)

Ask ECU MAN to confirm !

with the manual's all the S20 and S40 gearbox's are interchangeable as long as they share the same type of clutch (hydro or cable etc)

no idea with the autos tho ... why not convert to manual =)

    do a visual comparison,

I think from memroy EG used a manual shift control system and udes the PGMFI ECU to control the torque converter lockup, where the EK used an electric shift control system with a PCM

if this is the case witht he AT your looking at they are not compatible. You can tell by looking at the EG AT. it will only have two external solenoids, they are for the torque converter lockup, if the EK AT has four, then 2 are for the Torque converter and the other two are for shifting.

also ensure the EK AT is not a CVT trans,

if you find the EK AT only has two solenoids then you have a good change of interchanging them however then yuo have to ensure park/nuetral switches are the same connector and the shift cable will mate up.

no one really plays with AT these days so its hard to be 100% sure
