Polishing rims to mirror finish!!
Disclaimer: The following is provided as a GUIDE ONLY, and neither myself nor Ozhonda take any responsibility for the outcomes of someone else doing the following. You follow these steps at your own risk!
Aim: Too polish up your rim lips to mirror finish
Required:
Sandpaper (2x150 grit, 2x240 grit, 2x400 grit, 2x800 grit, 2x1200 grit, 2x1500 grit),
Bucket
Water
Car Shampoo
Metal Polish (Autosol, Meguiar's NXT gen all metal polish, Mothers mag and aluminum polish)
Steps:
1) Give your rims a wash (a good clean) and dry
2) Inspect for any damages
3) Grab your 150 grit sandpaper (WET SANDING) and fold it in half and cut
4) Fold one the halves and fold it in half and half again
5) Sanding time, grab your bucket of water and add some car shampoo (This way i found that the soapy water doesn't dry out and it's cleaning as you're sanding). With my rims the clear coat was going and it looked like rat shit. So i sanded the whole lip down until the clear coat is gone
150 grit This grit took me about 40 mins to take all the clear off
6) On to the next grit (240 grit)(WET SANDING), do step 3 and 4 again with the sandpaper.
This grit took me about 10-15 mins.
You'll start to notice that the sanding marks from the 150 grit is started to get fine, that is because the higher grit the finer the marks will be.
7) On to the next grit (400 grit)(WET SANDING), do step 3 and 4 again with the sandpaper.
This grit took me about 25 mins.
8) On to the next grit (800 grit)(WET SANDING), do step 3 and 4 again with the sandpaper.
This grit took me about 20 mins.
9) On to the next grit (1200 grit)(WET SANDING), do step 3 and 4 again with the sandpaper.
This grit took me about 15 mins.
10) On to the next grit (1500 grit)(WET SANDING), do step 3 and 4 again with the sandpaper.
This grit took me about 20 mins.
11) Polishing time! I tried all 3 brands to see which one came out the best.
AUTOSOL
In this part i used a small amount of polish to see how it reacts to my rims.
Spread the polish on the lip first before you start buffing (i buffed in a circular motion)
You'll notice that the cloth and the polish starts to turn black, thats how you know that it is doing it's job.
12) Buff off the polish, DO NOT let it dry up because it'll be hard to buff off!
MOTHERS
Not as good as Autosol

Cheers mate, umm depends on the material of your stock wheels. I've done it on fat 5s before, just need time and heaps of patients LOL..

Looks great man and props for the comparison. I've only used Meguire's and my friends told me to use Autosol which I found to be nowhere near as good for shine. Meguire's FTW.

excellent work.
If only you had a dremal to fix up those gutter rashes. It would look 1000% better.
When you say it too you 15 mins or 25 mins on each grit.
was that for A wheel or for all 4?

Very nice to see you've tried out 3 different polishes! I've only used autosol but got great results from it.
Looking forward to see how the surface reacts to the elements etc please post results
