Rego transfer, But did not sell a vehicle or buy a vehicle

    Hi people,
i need to know if my car is under my parents name and i want to put it under my name what is the process/fees involved?
I've so far only manage to find that i have to treat it as if i was buying the car off my parents, so i gotta fill in notice of diposal, pay stamp duty,etcetc... which i just did recently.

and also do they actually check the market value for the car? i bought it for $20,000 and i have no idea what market value it for my vehicle(which isnt a honda, cos i just sold mine)

u would have to pay stamp duty..

just drop the price abit and value it less.

Legally you should price it at market, but i doubt anyone ever does it

RTA people aren't too picky when it comes to declaring sale/market value etc. as long as it isn't excessive.

I have registered cars in the past with a market value of 30+ and written around $15k on the paperwork to save on stamp duty without worries. Having said that, I'm not providing any sort of advice, just merely stating my experience.

Quite often during the sale of old cars, rather than writing down $6000, people will write down $600 etc.

If they get sus about it, they will charge you the stamp duty at market value. Depends who you get at the RTA.

i think the redbook.com.au is a close gauge for market value of a car. But the value you sold at is what you are comfortable with.
A good reference deserve a rep.
