    Question just curious about swaps

    hi guys

im just curious (way too broke and noobish atm) since i saw that jdmyard thread selling k24a3's for cheap and was wondering what would be involved in a swap into a base dc5.

can you keep stock base dc5 ecu or need the stock accord one or go aftermarket?

can you keep base 5sp manual transmission?

is it a straight bolt on, like remove the 20a3 and put the 24a3 in a press go lol?

are there heaps of extra parts needed or would you have most of them having a dc5 already?

is it legal? would you need engineers cert?

i know it might be a dumb question but im just interested! would like to learn more about what i sit in most days!

    cheers

im pretty sure you'll need a K-Pro, and you can run your 5 speed box.

whats the difference between base model K20a3 head and the accord K24a3 head?
any performance gain to be had by keeping the k20a3 head and putting it on the k24a3 block?

Yup, k24a3 has 'real' i-Vtec, as well as the 2.4 displacement. Massive gains to be had by swapping the K24 with the K20a3
    part time potato

so for gains its a good swap? already having a k series would make the job cheaper/easier no?

isnt the K24a3 also economy vtec?

the base model integra has ...

    K20a3

    2002-2005 Honda Civic Si (EP3)
2002-2005 Honda Civic SiR (EP3)(Canadian version of US Civic Si)
    2002-2006 Acura RSX
Displacement: 1,998 cc (121.9 cu in)
    Compression: 9.8:1
    Power: 160 hp(120 kW) @ 6500 rpm(SAE net J1349 Rev 8/04)
    Torque: 140 lb·ft (190 N·m)* (191 N·m) @ 5000 rpm(SAE net J1349 Rev 8/04)
    Redline: 6700 rpm
    i-VTEC Engagement Window: 2200 rpm

    the accord euro has...

    K24a3

2003-2007 Honda Accord (Europe(EDM)) and Japan(JDM)) and 2003-2007 Honda Accord Euro CL9 (Australia, New Zealand)
Displacement: 2,354 cc (143.6 cu in)
    Bore and Stroke: 87 mm x 99 mm (3.43 x 3.90 inches)
    Compression: 10.5:1
    Power: 189 hp (140 kW) @ 6800 rpm
    Torque: 164.5 ft·lbf (223;N·m) @ 4500rpm
    VTEC Engagement: 6000rpm
    Redline: 7400rpm

    the accord vti has...

    K24a4

    2003-2005 Honda Accord(USDM), 2003-2006 Honda Element
Displacement: 2,354 cc (143.6 cu in)
    Bore and Stroke: 87 mm x 99 mm (3.43 x 3.90 inches)
    Compression: 9.7:1
    Power: 160 hp (119 kW) @ 5500 rpm (166 hp in 2007/2008)
    Torque: 160 ft·lbf (218 N·m) @ 4500 rpm (@4000 rpmin 2007/2008)
    Redline: 6800 rpm

so do any of them have performance orientated vtec ... or are they all economy - and do some have better flowing heads / cam profiles than others?
