EK9 imported and regod.. dodgy, but apparently works???

so last week i met this guy who imported an ek9. apparently, what he did was bring the ek9 down, cut out the chassis no., ID tags/VIN, and replace and weld in ek4 ones.

he had an ek4 which was recently written off, but still registered (hadnt notified vicroads that it was written off). so after changing over the VIN, he told me all he did was put the ek4 licence plates on the ek9, and notify vicroads that his engine number and car colour had been changed. the car is not complied or anything.

is this possible? sounds like bullshit to me?

that is known as rebirthing, and is illegal.
there is a large fine for people who do this, and possibly jail.

oh wow, so thats what a rebirth is!!!!.. so its some serious shit? but realistically what is the chance of being caught? got me thinking if its really is that easy? he only payed 11k for it and it is immaculate!! is it worth the risk?

The guy you met has got some serious balls doing a rebirth. All i will say is good luck to the bloke and fingers cross he doesn't get caught. it is not that easy as he puts it - there is a lot - i mean a lot involve and he's not telling you everything.

Stay clear man, it is not worth it and I am sure most people on OZ will agree with me.
When VTEC kicks in.. It's like having a..... You know the rest!!!!!!!

if no one ever dobs him in , honestly dont think he would ever get picked up on it, unless he gets sent to epa and they notice the firewall weld marks and even then high;y unlikely

If it's a good enough cut and shut job covered by immaculate wields and Respray of the area no one could tell! Plus the vin of his ek4 was never recorded as stolen or written off!!
