    Help explain something to me

    Hi OZH,

    I have been discussing ITBs with some friends (20v 4AGE engines) in particular the reasoning that they work so well on a toyota engine with a compression ratio of 10.5:1 and come standard and how a B16a has a compression ratio of 10.4:1 and why they wouldn't work.

    All things being equal say you had a standard B16A with a VAFC running on 98RON Fuel for example this should beable to run them, the only issue would be tuning, and they would work. Correct?

    Would i be right?

    Obviously the more mods you do the better the ITBs would respond but still a stock engine should be able to use them and maintain street drive-ability

    If im not can you explain why

    ofcourse ITBs would work on a b16a. Pretty much any engine....

    ITBs seem to go hand in hand with higher revving engines tho , with each throttle body balanced to maintain power/reliability/flow at overly higher RPMS. Motorbike engines generally have ITBS for example.

    Why do you say they don't work? Just because honda doesn't provide them? Honda does other things - look at the gsr motor with two separate air paths depending on revs. That im covers the whole range of revs for that motor.

    Generally you need to play with the intake ram side of the itb to tune it to the rev range you want. Itb's have less capacity to cover a range of revs.

    ITBs are a pain in the a$$ to get working properly. It takes alot of time tuning to get them to setup properly.

    The reason they work on 20vs is they come with stock ITBs, there is nothing to play with!
    The silvertops are AFM so you need to change it to map and pretty much run an aftermarket ECU, the blacktops are all map sensored so all you do is put the socks on them and away you go.
    Brings me back to my first car a 20v silvertop.


    On a honda you need to tune for it. Be ready to thin out your wallet.

    alot of honda bikes come with them standard
    CBR600 and CBR1000 for example
    these can be retro-fitted to be used on B series and D series
    but the tuning is a bit of a nightmare lol
