Replacing the Shift Boot on a DC5

Aim: Replacing the shift boot/shift gator on a DC5 (Demonstrated on a DC5s – may work for other models)

Needed:
-Flathead Screwdriver
-Pliers
-Scissors
-Zip-ties
-Scissors
-Sewing machine (If you want to make your own boot)
-Material (as above -$23/m at Spotlight)

Steps:
1 – Remove the gear knob, do this by pulling the collar down and unscrewing the knob.


2 – Remove the console insert thing, do this by opening the drink tray and pulling up the piece with the console. (This may be a good time to clean the crap out of the groves between the console and the piece removed)



Look at all this crap!

3 – Undo all the staples on the bit attaching the boot to the plastic. Remove the boot.


4 – Cut the zip-tie wrapping the boot to the collar and remove the collar.

See the zip tie? Up top. Cut it. Keep collar.
(Note; for those want to make their own boot follow steps 5 – 6)
5 – Un-sew the old boot and make a pattern out of it. Use this pattern to cut the pieces for the new shift boot.


6 – Sew together your new shift boot
7 – Undo the silver trim around the boot area. Do this by using a flathead screwdriver to undo the tabs on the back and pry it off
8 – Install your new boot, use a stapler to staple the boot back to the plastic. Use zip-ties to secure the collar on the new boot.
9 – Re-install the trim ring
10 – Reinstall everything - reverse order of removing it, pretty much.

Results!
