Smoke coming from behind the electronic fuel gauge

My fuel gauge first started flickering then a strong smell of burnt rubber then smoke appeared from behind the gauge. Before i start troubleshooting, has this occured to anyone else? Is it easy to access the fuel gauge? Any tips?

    Electrical fire

Check your fusebox for melted fuse

    Then replace all damaged wiring

Only way this could happen is if someone has replaced a fuse with a higher rated one at somestage.
