The TRUTH Behind the BYP DRAG engine ** The new low of the Honda Community
We hear it all the time when people question the components we used in the BYP EG and the BYP Drag EG. Rumours has been spreading around saying it’s a 2.6litre engine with big compression and big cams. The truth is the BYP EG is running an OEM built motor from head to block. It makes around 230hp. The same goes with the drag car, OEM assembled bottom end with a K20 Type R head with DC 2.2 cams.
This post is to set the story straight with regards to the drag motor that was removed on Thursday to help a fellow interstate Honda WTAC competitor after the failure of their built K-series engine. Fitting in with our busy schedule on the Thursday, the drag engine was removed from the car that afternoon after the other party has decided to purchase it to replace their busted engine. The engine was thoroughly inspected by 3 of their team members and all questions were answered. Engine combination and components were understood by the other party and they acknowledge the recent track performance of this engine.
We received a phone call a few hours later from the owner of the car, stating there was something wrong with the engine and that there were visible signs of coolant in all 4 combustion cylinders. To our shock, we couldn’t believe something like this had happen. The motor was in perfect condition, running a low 11sec pass 3 weeks ago and its was visible enough that the car was loaded and unloaded from the trailer. It was very late that Thursday night and we didn’t want to make a big fuss about it and got the motor back to the workshop so we can tear down the head to see actually what went wrong. The head check out, the sleeves were in great condition and the head gasket was like new. As the team sat around and ponder how the F&*K water/coolant got into the combustion chambers is most puzzling considering it’s a seal motor. We didn’t want to think the motor was instantly tampered by the other party and start the blame game.
On Monday, after WTAC, we got the head and head gasket inspected by a few specialist to reconfirm its condition. Both items were in good condition and no signs of leaks. At this stage, we are very disappointed and frustrated of what had happened to this motor. Tampering and sabotaging ones property is a new low from the other team!
To prove a point, we got the motor reassembled and recheck all torque setting on all major engine components to make sure nothing else was tampered with. The engine was put back into the drag car and dyno’ed on Tuesday. The Drag car was then taken out on Wednesday at WSID where it ran a 10.9@124mph!
We have sent the other party a request for compensation for the time wasted from this whole ordeal and we were going to let this situation slide. They have failed to do so and this post is to make aware of this team practices. We won’t directly name names, but I guess you guys can figure it out. This is the Honda team that didn’t show up on Friday and ran only a few laps on the Saturday We’ll just leave it at that and take it as a lesson learnt. We thought better of this team, but the way how they screwed with the motor and dealt with this matter has made us reassess their team and associates. If you guys want to know who it is, shoot me a PM!
So if you guys haven’t figured it out, there was NOTHING WRONG with the motor. The motor was sabotage and tampered with when it was in the other parties’ possession. We have heard rumours that people have said that we sold them a dud motor! I guess people spreading those rumour can eat their own words with this post. The motor is perfectly fine and ran 10.9@124mph!
Visible signs of coolant in this cylinder. There was much more in cylinder 1, but we cleaned it all up
Do you offer a legit receipt based business though ? Because as it is - its all your word against his. If the buyer feels ripped he should take you to the department of fair trading...where , IF you have nothing to worry about then no issues !
That's the way it works in real life , not threads on the net everyone.
While I don't doubt your situation - make sure your side is covered.
I think its poor form that you feel the need to debunk this rumour online - where there is no possible way of proving you or them wrong. GL
Biggest problem with car workshops is Rumors. Pretty much every workshop out there has at least a few horror stories out there, that end up spreading out to the rest of the car scene while the story slowly but surely gets skewed and changed to the point where no one knows if it is true or not.
I think it is a god idea to get in befor the story turns into another rumor that gets blown out of proportion.
From what I can tell, the motor was purchased, then another 'better' motor was found. So a dodgy attempt at getting a refund was made. At least going on these words.

Benjamin, i think you need to re-read what happen. Obviously you dont understand what had happen. Dont worry about our side being covered. We have more than enough witnesses to vouch for the events that happen. I did post this under my sub-section didn't I?
All workshops/people or whatever have some bad experiences. Noone spreads good word, just bad. I try to stay away from romours etc and just go based on personal experience. The engine looks and perfomed the goods right? If so then all good on your end. Just keep up the good work and it will outweigh the negative ( even if they are only rumours ).

Your definately not wrong michael. The team should have further explored their options rather than do something so disrespectful and detrimental to another workshops name. I think this is total bullcrap and just goes to show how unfair people are willing to be and how political the Time Attack scene has become. What happened to the good old days of just going out to have some fun!!! Bring back grass roots TA events!!!
