Crunching noise in neutral :s b18c7

So I get a crunching noise in neutral when I press my foot down on the clutch and slowly let it out. It happens on the way out. Also in between gears when changing..

Mechanic has told me its "all the bearings in the gearbox" and it's gonna cost 2 gran...

Anyone know if this is true? Or have a good mechanic. I think this one is a little to difficult for diy

    Thanks guys

sounds more like the input shaft bearing....common to fail on B and D series motors/setups.
Only way to find out is to drop the box , open it up and go from there.
Do you get any difficulty getting into gears ?

I would recommend at the minimum , replacing the input shaft bearing , counter shaft bearing and release bearing (clutch side).....not $2k !

Pm me if you want this done quickly cheaply and efficiently in Sydney.
