Previous car crash - steering wheel leather part?

Hi all, my friend told me that if the leather part of the steering wheel sticks up means the car has previously been in a car crash. Any expert opinion?

Can you understand the logic behiind it?

If an airbag is deployed it pretty much rips off the steering wheel's face off, and it's sometimes difficult to put back together which is why ur mate thinks it could have been in an accident.

^^^ mine hasnt been in an crash and it sticks up.

IT's a common fitting problem with 1st gen euros, the CL9's airbag does not affect that area.

    that back thing lifting up?

    not part of the airbag

i was in an accident with my euro and the airbag went off...its only the middle console of the steering wheel which is the airbag module...

anyways got it replaced and i still got the "leather" bit sticking up

My 2004 that I have owned since new and never has had the airbags deploy also has those bits sticking up. The leather dries up a bit and it starts sticking up after 2-3 years. Mine when erect is 5mm tall.
