    Valve Cover seal replacement tips

    Hey guys,

I'm going to replace my seal on my 02 Dc5R. I know how to do it all, but i am not sure how to apply the sealant.
Is a sealant really necessary? And where do you apply it?
Somewhere i read only in 4 corners, but i am not sure.

If you have done it before, please let me know.

Still not sure where to apply it. On the actual cover, or the engine itself.? Also, do i do it onto the rubber, or onto the metal part?

Do it where the castings join on the head. You only need a dab of it.

Aznalex. I have looked at the service manual and it has the same photo on page 6-46. But the best way to explain to you exactly where to put the dabs goes like this:
The part where the seal sits is made out of 4 pieces of cast. And roughly around the corners you can see where the cast joins. Once you take off the valve cover grab a light and look at where the old seal lines were. You will come along the 4 points that are joints. As in there is a line that shows it is joint. Put just a line of hondabond or quality rta material over those lines and bolt the cover on within 5minutes before it dries.
Also remember before putting sealant. Clean the old sealant, grease, dust etc. Make it pure cold metal clean. And then do the rest of the steps

ahhk, that gives a better idea of how to go about the bonding agent.

so when replacing the cover gasket you would
    0) clean everything then,
    1) put the rubber gasket down (on the engine side),
    2) put those 4 dabs of bonding agent,
    3) then put the cover down yea?

does bonding agent need to be used on both sides of the gasket?

dab the bonding agent then lay down the gasket then cover it up

1.clean everything: dust dirt grease and old bond
2.put new seal into the cover that you took off. And press it in.
    3. Clean the bolts and seals that tighten the cover
    4. Put 4dabs of sealant enough not to see the lines
    5. Put cover in place on engine and tighten not so tifht
(Its easy to break a bolt so dont go too hard)
If it leaks, then you can tighten it more later.
Give it a few hours. I gave mine 20hours to stay safe.
    6. Clean engine bay and run around for a bit. Then check for leaks.
    7. If it leaks, tighten a biy more.
If it still leaks, get a pro to do it
