Does anyone know if the spoon sports plugnplay ECU requires the supporting spoon mods for it to work optimally? would I be able to use different brand bolt ons?
Is usually that way, just like the mugen ecu, which was found to only vendor from mugen parts. These base map tunes are usually never going to be perfect for the car unless you get it personally tuned to what mods you have. Keep in mind the differences and fuel used in Japan.

Just found out more info on it now reading s2ki. few guys had good gains only running the spoon ecu with non-spoon bolt ons.
Good thing about these plug and play ECUs is that if you dont care about monster dyno numbers and you dont want to tune them, then it just adds a bit more spice to your bolt ons.
Yup, by pushing the timing and fuel closer to the limit for 100 octane (available in Japan, not here) and removing nanny safe guards like timing retard on knock.
The bottom line is with the stock ecu.
Middle line is with the addition of the spoon ecu
The red/top line is with the spoon ecu and the js racing oil smoother additive.
Mods are normal I/H/E.
Driving wise, mid range is much better, other then that not much else changes.
