    After reviewing the original one it looked like some of the black paint had already come off...

    Agree with Eucalyptus oil, or Tea Tree oil.

    Alternatively if you want I can get you some adhesive remover swabs from work this week. We use them to remove wound dressings etc. Might work...

    I fail in reading.
    But to take off residue, I've used a random orbital, medium pad and swirl remover with great success. Doesn't leave marks too.
