96 EK D16Y4 Brake Upgrade At A Budget?

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the forum, I was hoping to pick your brain.

I am currently building a budget track car. I have done the following Mods.

- Stripped the interior.
- Installed a cold air intake.
- Full exhaust system (this is in the making)
- Coil overs (this is in the making)

And I'm looking into new brakes, I was hoping I may be able to bolt on a more current model caliper if they are interchangable to improve the braking force?

would you car be running rear drums?

if so i would recommend you converting to rear disc either from a EM1 or a EK4

He has disk brakes all round. ,262mm rotor.

U can do the popular integra front Brake upgrade,300mm rotor plus it's 1" master Cylinder.

U will have to swap in the whole knuckle assembly,around $300.

Best to put a seal kit and clean the calipers.Check bushes..

I have the y4 and I have enough stopping power with:

Goodridge braided brake lines
cusco brake stopper
new rotors and bendix brake pads

Honda changed the the caliper in august 96 from smaller akebono caliper to the bigger sumotomo caliper. Sumotomo pad is 1mm wider and nearly 1cm taller. They will sell the akebono pad as it fits both. The sumotomo caliper is slightly superior. .
New rotors are awesome

I have some advice

If this is on a budget - don't spend a cent. Your standard brakes will be fine for anything that your standard engine can throw at it.

Tyres are the thing really stopping you so a really decent set of tyres are gonna be your best friend. Don't skimp on tyres

A good pads also will help.
Qfm hpx is Australian made and designed for the street enthusiasts.
They also have Q1ARM for track use but I don't think its good for a daily driver.
