Inspect valve clearance 2008 Civic VTI sedan

    Hi guys,

In the service book, one of the task required for a 120000 km service is to check valve clearance. Do you guys think it is really necessary to inspect the valve clearance ? If it is necessary, should I take it back to Honda or any mechanics can check it ?

    Cheers

    Yes it is
Any good trustworthy mechanic should be able to do it.
Remember that the engine needs to be cold to do it

If there is no valve chatter, leave it for later. I think you will find an asterisk in the book that says something like 'extra cost may apply'. This means the dealer will probably just check audibly, and if they are noisy, will adjust them and charge you for the time (and a new rocker cover gasket).
If you listen to the valves and they are quiet, you have done your inspection. If you don't know what you are listening for, take it to someone who does.
It's not a hard job to adjust them, and you WILL have to adjust them by 200k.
