What RPM do you shift at?

What is the best RPM to shift at for fuel economy while not sacrificing too much torque/power?

I seem to shift anywhere between 2500 -3000 rpm, however i was told 3500rpm is a better shift point and wouldnt consume that much more petrol.

At what RPM would you consider it to be drinking petrol?

Also, which of the following would consume more petrol in trying to accelerate from 60km to 100km.
A). Stay in 4th gear and rev it OR
B). Shift into 5th and floor the pedal to the WOT position but at much less RPMS then A.

    i shift at 3000rpm
i dont think it will save that petrol shifting at 2500 or 3500rpm
just dont shift over 5200rpm all the time ;p

i remember a thread about this somewhere
i think ecu man or someone tested a b16a on the dyno and found that if you shift at 3000 you save more petrol then shifting at 2000

Usually around 3200 or so - used to be a bit higher (around 3800 or 4000), but with Type S air intake installed, there's much more torque down low, so I shift slightly earlier.

the auto box does it for me usually around 2500rpm so relaxing.

B consumes more petrol if A is not under WOT. The fuel goes in but the engine does not make enough torque to exceed the load that the engine is put under.

If both are under WOT, then A should instantaneously consume more fuel, but if you measure the amount of fuel taken to get from 60 to 100km/h, you should find that B uses more fuel.

just shift when you have to, according to the situation... shifting to save petrol can casue alot of safety issues.

more importantly id rather like to know when you shift when flooring it at WOT.

You will use more fuel if you are straining the engine, so lowest revs arent always the best. Keep the engine healthy and change at the mid range (3500 to 4000)
