    Question Spare key

    I got an integra type r 2000 model and i was just wondering if i can get my key cut at any locksmith or do i need to bring it to a honda dealer?

    get a genui honda key from the dealer, and then get it cut or sumthing.
    ebay has sum un-cut honda keys fro sale...

    i believe the 2000 dc2r uses a key that's programmed for your car for the immobiliser..

    you're going to have to go to honda to get it.. and it's expensive stuff..

    dont these keys have a chip in them? any idea how much it would cost to get another key from the dealers?

    the keys are about $45 i'm pretty sure, then get it cut normally, then, you have to get it programmed

    if its a blacktop(genuine) yes.
    if not, then go to your local keycutters.

    actually i think there are some other guys besides dealers that can program keys now. I know one stall in chatswood has a guy that can cut and program keys.

    He charges about 100 bucks a key i think, but if ur an nrma member u get a discount

    I heard from someone that they need access to the ecu for them to program the key? is this true?

    you need your master red key which has the code on it
    then u will need to get a black key to for normal use last time i checked
    it was around $180 from honda
    correct me if im wrong anybody
    if you havnt got the right code that corresponds to the ignition key hole the car wont start apparently.

    i only have the black key and it doesnt have an code on it

    u need the red key that has the original code on it
    black key is only for every day use
    they use the red key as a template to make your black key
    just go to the honda dealer and get a quote
    it wont be pretty but if other members say that you can get it done else where try them first.
