i got an RAC check done on cars when i was shopping around for my teg
things i found wrong or went wrong was:
- the honda reverse gear crunch or stickynes - if its in early stages dont worry but if its bad than look into it
- springs can get noisy and sound dodgy (cant give u technical explaination but it was a choosing factor for a couple of tegs for me)
- the door panels wont line up properly if its had major bodywork done, check the gap between the door and wer the windsceen follows along
- the antenna will make a ticking noise as it goes up and down if its bent (should replace them with a s2k one)
- check to make sure the boot board isnt snapped (the flooring in the boot)
- warm the car up for 15-20min and take it for a 'vtec' just to make sure its all running ok
- take the floor matts out and look at the carpet, in one of the tegs i was looking at a few rips and tears wer being hidden with floor mats
- if the windows make a sound going up and down or rattle when they are halfway down theres a good chance the black runner has gone, this is very expensive to fix so dont worry about it
- check the gas struts that hold the boot up, these are also costly to fix
- if theres a metal rattleing sound coming from the back while ur driving check the back seat is bolted down... took me ages to identify what the sound was
- also check for CV joint ticking when u go around corners, these always go in thrashed FWD cars and can cost a bit of $$ and fidleing to fix - not a major issue tho
- make sure theres no stickers covering the rear window brake light - unless it has a spoiler with a brake light
- lastly dont be blinded by nice stereo, mags, aftermarket gear, bling etc, try to look at the car in a stock form and also make sure that these modifications dont hinder the way the car runs in its stock form, always look at modifications with scrutiny just to be sure
i hope i helped, these are all things i went through when i bought my baby (teg) last year
