I have just bought myself a short shifter from ebay for my civic ek, one of those cheap ones for abouts $45 delivered. I just wanted to try it out.

Firstly i tried to install it into my car and had troubles because i couldnt take off my gear knob (super strong lock tight on it) and so i had go give it up and give it to my brother who also has a civic ek.

So after reading some of the threads i thought i cant be that hard to put in. 2 hours of stuffing around and i finally finished it ! yay !

Now for the test drive - as it stated on the add "This shifter reduces the shift throw by 35-45% of stock, provides quicker shifting response." it was quite good i reckon. It did feel like it reduced the throw of around 40%, i felt a massive difference when i took it for a drive, very impress for something which cost me $45 and it sits lower than the stock gear stick too.

Overall for a cheap mod i thought it was a good investment hahaha just have to wait till i get me gear knob off then ill get one for myself too

I've heard of issues where it doesn't put it into gear properly and often causes premature wear of the gear box

Soo far soo good , its sorta hard to tell when gettin into reverse but its not too bad

With the shorter 'throw' of the stick it usually means the synchro/baulk ring has to do it's job much faster (due to the nature of the quicker shift) it will in turn cause more wear in the synchro/baulk rings and gear sets. There is not much that can be done to avoid this issue other than shifting at a slightly slower speed/rate.

The shift throw is shortened which is more comfortable to drive with, but should be given extra time to synchronize speeds before fully engaging the next gear - otherwise premature wear could result.

In a race application however the sacrifice of wear is minimal for the gain of a quicker shift.

took me a while to do mine. some issues occurred for me. the bottom half of the shifter touched my b-pipe as i engaged in 1st or 2nd. then had to remove it and go back to stock. still sitting at home but i want to get it back on. heard you can do a heat and bend but kinda worried it will affect the performance.

Get a Type R JDM shift linkage kit.. the best performing one so far..

yep had this problem also. On a stock car you need to move the heat shield cos it hits the shifter. I forgot i had this problem when i first did mine.
When i did it again to put the polyurethane bushes in i didn't have this problem cos i got an aftermarket exhaust

Yes it wasnt too hard to install you just have to have a basic idea of how it is going to come off. There are many threads which show you exactly what to do.

I dont find it is much of a difference trying to put it into gear, its just different in tellin whether or not your in gear. Just really need to get use to it.

It took me a lil while longer than usual too coz i dont have a holist and im sure not many other people have one either hahaha but its just a lil tight where the shift link it, there is not much room because the exhaust is there.

yeah but its a piece of cake if you got a hoist you can borrow ;).

it is slightly harder to get into gears as your not use to it, but give it a week and you won't even notice

I just did mine didn't need to take exhaust off. just move the exhaust (stock) over with a bit of hand power lol and the shifter slips right down

depends if the stock heat sheild was still in place. It only hits the heat sheild not the exhaust

yeh but you dont need to take the heat shield off.. just move it over to the right while pulling the shifter and rod down to the left. slips right down.
