Hi guys,
I need some advise, please help!
I went to a mechanic yesterday and check out my car he said my car the engine oil burn or something, which have some smoke at the exhaust at high rev
How do i fix this, or do i need to replace a new engine
My car: d16y8 (SOHC- VTEC)
very high k's
Thanks
nah, u dont need to replace the engine. but what you can try first is to switch to a slightly thicker viscosity oil.
So for example, if you are using a 10W40 right now, switch to a 10W50 or 10W60 and see how that goes.. and see if you burn as much oil.
or you can go and rebuild the engine and have the O rings replaced, but I don't recommend that.. just change to a different oil first, and then take it from there.
Good luck.
also, are you currently running full synthetic oil?
and did you buy your car second hand (with quite a bit of mileage on it?) if so, are you familiar with the service history of the car?
if you bought it second hand, and the car has always been back to Honda for service, then its fairly safe to assume that the car has been running on Mineral oil for most, if not all of its life... if now that you have it, and have switched over to a synthetic oil, then you will get a bit of oil burning.
but anyway, as i said, switch to a thicker oil first, then monitor it... and if it still is burning alot of oil, switch back again to a mineral oil.
some people on this list will tell you to rebuild your engine... but i would recommend against that.. not unless you plan to drive the car for a lot longer, and only then if its really burning ALOT of oil.
Let us know how it goes

yeah my civic was recently rebuilt coz it was blowing smoke at high revs...had to get it rebuilt coz some fool lagged me into the EPA. But one thing u can try is STOP SMOKE additive. Cost ya about $8 from Kmart. Give that a go

should have ask the mechanic what to do! or ask him to fix it for you, u were there in the first place

if the mechanic was to 'fix' it for him, the chances of him charging 2000+ upwards is very good. it was smart of him to investigated his options.

Hi guys
I’ve posted before about my car burning oil but I found something strange
I only blow smoke going up hills and even at low Revs and only a slight hill it still blows but I can rev the hell out of her going on an even surface (No smoke)
Can something be coursing this?
Thx Luke

not burning too much bout a ltr i'd say. turned black pretty fast. week after changing it minus the filter and black a week later. Leads and plugs have just been replaced as well.
using 20-50 or something. Was thinkin of tryin 10-50 or 10-40 or something this weekend.

i've got the same problem... black soot on my rear bumper near my exhuast...
waiting for my radiator to get back then i'll do an oil change from 10-50 shell to 5-50 mobil full syn... will use transition fluid to make sure engine's cleanned before i put the new stuff in...
if its still smokes after this... i'll investigate in getting new O rings
