Hey guys planning to install a sandwich plate for oil temp and press, I recently changed my oil and filter and dont really want to lose much of it as it costs as much as liquid gold.
Just some quick questions on the euro's oil filter considering it sits way above the sump, is it full of oil upon removal if car has been left standing for 12 hours? and should I replace the filter (worried about the gasket) even if ive only used it for about 500kms? and If i'm going to lose oil can I get a rough figure of my expected losses.

even if u r using $mobil$ ,u'll lose about $1 worth of oil at the most, hardly gonna bust the budget & assuming u didnt overtighten the filter in the first place, then it will be fine to just reuse it.

Yeah, you'd be lucky to lose 500ml of oil.Just have extra oil spare in case you need to top it up after you've finished.

Like tony said, about 500ml of oil, just tip it out, install your oil sandwich plate (don't forget to add oil to hold the o-ring in the sandwich plate and more oil on top of the o-ring to seal against the block).
For your oil temperature and pressure sensors, make sure you use a liquid sealant and not tape sealant. For the plugs used on any extra ports, I would apply liquid sealant as well to be sure.

A plate that gets 'sandwiched' between the engine block and the oil filter, so engine oil passes through it. You use it to attach sensors for oil temp/oil pressure.

when installing a sandwich plate with an oil cooler set up, which -10 fitting is for hot oil entering the cooler, and which is for the return (cooled) oil back into the block/sandwich plate?

does it matter which way its set up?

Normal direction of oil flow is outside of the filter 1st, then down the middle 2nd.
I am sure you can work it out from that?
Outside of engine filter mount > Sandwich plate - outlet > cooler > other side of sandwhich plate - inlet > outside of filter > middle of filter > straight down the middle to engine.

From that photo. There is only a rubber seal on one side right? That rubber seal goes engine side, because the filter has its own rubber seal that will go on the other side. So therefore that outlet closest on picture is the outlet to the cooler..

cool, so when the O ring side is attached to the block then the outlet to go to the cooler will be on the left and the return on the right.
Thanks Dean, just wanted to clear it up.

Well it depends on how you look at it and rotate it. But as in photo, mount with rubber seal to engine side and the outlet closest in photo is flow to the cooler.
