You could try using masking tape and newspapers on the doors and any areas you don't want paint on. Carefully tape over any gaps in between the plastic and the chrome so that when you spray, paint won't leak into the gaps. That would probably be the easiest way as you won't need to remove anything. I haven't done something like this to my car before but it's how I would do it. Hope this helps.

Yeah that's true. You will probably have to sand the chrome part, prime it and then spray it. I'm just not sure if that part is actual metal or plastic that's been painted chrome. If it is plastic then you should be able to strip it off, prime and then paint.

Or you can get black window tint and paste it over the chrome... thats what they do in Indonesia to get the black chrome look on CRVs. IF you want all black then use darkest tint possible? also its reversible.. might come in handy when youre trying to sell the car?

u need to strip the chrome paint off or else the paint you spray on it will just chip off easily.

would suggest just using black vinyl sticker to cover it. as the strip is very thin/narrow, the colour difference wouldn't be noticeable. and the adhesive on the vinyl is not that sticky so it would be easy to peel it off later. shouldn't cost you any more than $10. :D
