on the upside, least with the motor out u can see if there are any leaks developing? (tryna help ya see the brighter side of it!)

yeah me to , sould have it all back together and going in 2 wednesday's time . biggest thing is going to be fitting the DC2 type R LSD into my gearbox as the ring gear needs a redrill ( thats easy ) but have to shim the flywheel side bearing as its 1mm -1.5mm shorter than the stock open wheeler and have to reuse the old bearings from the stock diff . i have a spare D2J5 gearbox so i have all the parts i need , just time consuming as im thinking a whole day just on the gearbox but then i want it perfect as im hoping to crack the 600fwhp on the dyno mid sept .

Sweet. What are you going to do for the run-in? Baby driving, hard driving, dyno?
phattzy
05-09-2012, 11:11 PM
def baby it with the bottom end i have just put in there , 3300rpm limiter 1000km run in but im driving it down to brissy at the end of the month so theres my run in and im want to get it dyno'd while im down there 1600km from home to brissy . my best mate lives in gladstone and that 1000km from home so we'll be dropping the oil and filter ( inspecting for shaving ) and put the good oil in (penrite 10 tenths racing) either 10w-40 or 15w-50 havnt decided yet and the K&N pro series filter . just bought these to sotted out the holes on the ring gear so the bolts line up .

I'm a bit sus on that Tow Hook.
Is it rated? Is it a good brand?
And i've seen the 'no name eBay' ones bend before, they are not to be trusted.
Also that strikes me as a very odd way to run in a high performance Motor, and you shouldn't require limiters.. Get the thing on the dyno straight away and avoid all the hassle of run-in.

sorry fella's , been abit slack in reply'n . i spun a big end last wed and its dead again , im going all out this time as i have a spare block thats going into the engine builder for a over bore from 81mm to 83.5mm , new 83.5mm weisco pistons with a static CR of 8.0:1 , CP ring kit and eagle h-beam rods . should take me to just under 2.2ltrs and a brand new crank / oil pump / water pump and new rod and main bearings (ACL race series) new cometic 84mm 5 layer 0.050" MLS head gasket to top everything off . its a pain this has happened but im better to get this done and pay the engine builder to assemble and get all my bearing clearence's perfect and to honda's specs so i get no more fails . just waiting to hear back from the bank tomorrow if there going to lend me another $4500 . we'll see what happens i guess ? i should be all good and back on the road by christmas tho .

Sorry i didnt get much of that
How'd you blow your motor?
phattzy
28-09-2012, 12:58 AM
unsure as i havnt pulled it down yet but im thinking a big end bearing has spun , and i have a funny feeling that the oil pump had failed to provide enough oil for the rod bearing and spun it . i have just gave the cross member a slight grind so the dump pipe flange had clearence and gave a few small rev's to 3000rpm on the driveway and it just locked up and stopped instantly at 3000rpm , i then unlocked it with my breaker bar and dropped the oil and there is slight fines in the oil so im guessing its a big end . no biggy mate as i'll pay a engine builder to assemble the bottom end and line bore the main's if needed and get all the bearings to the right clearence's that honda recommend in there workshop manual . will be pulling the engine back out next week and pulling down to see what has failed .
Jasemas
28-09-2012, 05:09 PM
Didnt you do the oil pump and bottom end when you did the car?
Did you rev it to 3000rpm when it was cold? with boost?

01-10-2012, 10:56 AM
na the oil and water pumps were never changed , the engine was at operating temp (83°) . should here back from the bank tomorrow and then i can start organising the rebuild of the new bottom end , should have the engine out and pulled down by this weekend and find out where it failed .

ok sign'd new loan contract and money should be in account tonight , yeah . just placed my order with race engineering just waiting on a reply so i can pay them . engine builder has decided to go with 82mm pistons with a static C/R of 8.5:1 and a 0.050" 5 layer MLS head gasket from cometic which will be in the piston , rod kit . the spare crank has minor damage to the front where the balancer goes on and he's not that concerned as he will repair it . now fun part of getting the engine out yet again as the engine builder is waiting on now 2 things , main stud kit from current engine and balancer , bolt and key for the repair of the front . will be ordering new oil pump and water pump tonight and should have them in the next 2 weeks . b18 cam plug should be here this week/next week aswell . PROGRESS !!!!!!!

Ah closed deck ofcourse.. Well with those sorts of power figures you shouldn't have any troubles there =P

ok some more diturbing pic's , no:4 piston failure , its pretty bad ! actually disgusting ! , this is what makes me believe its a JE Pistons / SRP Pistons fault . the damage / failure is local to only piston no:4 , pistons 3,2 and 1 are in very good contion for only 250km on them , the 5 layer MLS gasket is in brillant condition and no sign's of any detonation in any of the cyclinder chambers ( including piston no:4 ) all injectors were tested fine ( via ECU test function ) and have a current log from when last runninng and all working fine , i believe this piston was never forged properly and never went through a Q&A process by JE Pistons . i will be sending them a email and pic's and a very detailed discribtion on the 250km life on the pistons . its a shame but im not that upset over it as i have new weisco pistons and billet h-beam rods on the way and paying a engine builder to assemble the bottom end for me . the head has abit of metal thru it but ive just found that i have x2 spare sets of cams so i'll be giving the head a good clean tomorrow with a few tins of CO cleaner , including oil gallerys and ordering a new set of cam seals and valve cover gasket . heres some pics of the 1ST bearing failure and 2ND piston failure .

my new bar & plate intercooler arrived today and as ive almost run out of things to do to the lude while i wait for the internals , head gasket and oil pump to arrive i got stuck into mounting it and as i had a spare 3mm plate i got syuck into bending and shaping some nice looking brackets and the end result is something im proud of .

some productive progress , noticed some pretty bad cracks at the back of the gearbox with the last pull and as i have a spare gearbox thought no better time to swap over rear housings and it gave me a chance to see how the inside was holding up with the edition to the DC2-R LSD , well it only has 250km to its name but im more than happy with the inside , clean oil , no metal , no rubbing , no marks , no play its all very healthy there and no with a new rear housing there is no doubt with the gearbox , drive line at all .i'll let the pic's do the talking

success !!!!!!!!!!!!!! its alive and under its own puff ! everything is being controlled from the adaptronics and set triggering to a h22a dissy ( thanks ian for all your help on this ) locked timing @ 15° and set dissy timing to 15° unlocked timing and ignition is perfect , its still heaps rich but very very safe , only problem is the timing belt adjuster bolt has stripped the thread on the block , i have a spare adjuster bearing and machined the face down so the bolt would bite deeper in the thread but with a little rev the timing belt started to slap as the adjuster became loose . looks like the only way to fix it is to match up a tap slightly bigger and find a bolt to match original length . but at least i got her idling , bleed out all the air in the cooling system , and got some heat into the MLS . im just going to reinstall the front bar and park her up , thanks again and stay tuned because this is only the begining of how mental the boosted 3g is .

well better do a update since its been awhile , went for a hiway drive up north this morning (140km give or take) and ran like a dream , such a great car to drive with no loud droning exhaust note and sits around 2700rpm at around 100kph . handles awesome with the ride height lift'd around 10-15mm at the front . had good AF's around the 15.0:1 and ignition around the 33°-34° . had my 3 year old with me and she just loved it with gangnam style pumping ! hehe . also got around to removing the rear seats out and still decieding if to relocate battery there now ? dont know if its allowed must look into it . repositioned the waste gate and had to cut a slot in the bonnet as the gate has been rubbing on the inside of the bonnet , will get some more black stainless mesh for the hole . other than that im starting to get some KM on here now .
