hey fellas,

i am interested in painting my engine cover (b16 dohc cover) and was just wondering what kind of steps to take and what paint to use?

paint mixer says i just use the engine enamel paint and spray it straight on after cleaning it, no primer no other coats.. is he correct?

And, do i just screw off the cover and paint it and put it back on aftre dried?
any particular precautions i must take when screwing off the cover? will if fk up anything?

make sure you use VHT or engine enamel. I believe you can get it for less than $15 from supercheap. Yeah just after cleaning as i don't think primer will stand the temp. The heat should seal the paint anyway. That's what i did with my exhaust....

ive done mine before
all i did was screw it off
paint strip it
and then clean it with REAL GOOD
then put about 5 coats of paint on it
if your gaskets are stuffed then change them (including the rings)
or just do what i did and put gasket silicone stuff all the way around :P

and make sure when your bolting it back on that you tighten them to the right tension.. you cant tighten them too much otherwise youll stuff them up (like i did)

and to get the "HONDA DOHC VTEC" writing back after you've painted it.. just sand it down real carefully

gasket silicone? mmmmmmm.....just apply around and sit the cover back on? simple as that?

i wanna sand my cover down too. just for the fun of it. the paint's stripping off anyway. might as well ay?

ANYONE in Sydney or newcastle wanna get together to diy??
