You can quieten the exhaust note by putting in a resonator on the muffler tip...
As for the Stainless Steel Mufflers, I think you can find them at just about any local exhaust shop in your area :)

Each manufacture of muffler is different and each will dampen/tune the note differently. A resonator(s) will keep it more quiet. Hasn't this been covered before? :D

usually you can buy silencers from your brand of muffler
but yeah changing the muffler will change the noise it makes
silencer is the cheapiest way, plus u can take it out if u want the noise back, or get a standard one fitted back if u dont like the noise.

Mugen loop back exhaust system
if u want to quiet it down, shove some steel wool up there... :)

i believe that they put the reasonator under the car before the tip, not on the tip. :D

The resonator is along the catback piping.
You'll probably find you have a hotdog style resonator if your exhaust is really loud. Get an oval style resonator to quiten the exhaust.
does that steel wool thing work? o.O

If you dont want to be frowned upon by silencing your muffler (which i know happens with some circles of car "enthusiests" around here in melb), a quality resonator will allow you to loose alot of noise with minimal performance as cost.

yeah.... steel wool would affect ur preformance.
get a nother resonator in ur piping

yeah it works alright.
takes a bit to get it right, too much wool and it blocks the air and not enough and it blow out.
i put steel wool up my gfs muffler coz it was louder than mine, some knob put 2.5 inch on her astina and we chucked a tin on the back and the combination is **** loud!!!
works well and keeps her happy
btw, massive change in air flow, the car responds differently now, wouldnt say we lost power but a difference is felt on the BUNGHOLE DYNOMETER :D
