hey fellas. i was just wondering, when u fellow euro owners got ur car from the dealer, before ur 1000km service, how many times did u guys redline the thing? if u redlined it at all?
and also, my dad has been driving and he told me he stalled it quite a few times. i just wanted to know how bad is it for the car and engine if u keep stalling? do would some parts of the engine wear out quicker than others if u stall or something?

Your redlining it, I would'nt do that for the first 5000 k's, let it break in 1st.

Plenty of different views about this. I followed the approach that says don't baby a car from new. I started red lining from 1,000kms - even once or twice before that. Engine feels strong. I will know in a few weeks at a dyno day how it is going. Would be good if other Euros came along! Details here

Stalling is fairly common when getting used to the Euro manual and dbw (i presume it is the manual?)

I redlined it right from new, but only when the engine is properly warmed up (as i always do). People think it's better to take it easy but the fact is piston rings need to be sealed and it is best to run the car through all the rev ranges. For the 1st 1000 before the service I would suggest take everything easy, but don't be scared to give it a bit of a stick. If you decide to redline it, do it after driving for at least 10-15 minutes so that engine is properly warmed up.

PS: My Euro's clocked up 18,500km so far and engine still running smooth. For the record I redlined it whenever I got the chance since it rolled out of the showroom.

redlining before 1000kms isnt a problem as long as you dont do it lots. engines are runnin at the factory, but there still is the (take care of it stage ) for the 1st 1000kms. you should see the mechanics drive these things when they do the pre delivery

Redlining is part of a VTEC's growing up stage :P..... But I don't do it during the running in stage as well as when it's cold....

I second that opinion... Except that i redlined it when it was around 700km.. I just couldn't wait or be patient enuf... Wanted to hear the vtec sound...

Just make sure that you warm up the engine properly before redlining. Ask the others said, the engine comes pretty much run in from the factory. The run in period in the manual is for the other mechanical parts such as the transmission (that is why it says not to do standing starts by dropping the clutch at high rpm).

so the run in period is 1000kms?

I'd say 5000km, that means no staying at the high RPM range for long times of over 1 minute (i.e. racing), no high rev clutch drops form standing start (i.e. racing) and wait for the revs to drop in the 1-2 shift so that you don't wear out your synchros (but you won't get to hear the wheels chirp.. hehe).

Shit, I redlined it before it got 15kms on it! (got it with 12kms on the clock)

I don't know about stalling it, I suppose it can't be good for the driveline.

Definetly.. I got a friend that worked as a apprentice during pre delivery.. He told me once that he was pre delivering a audi TT & Audi S3.. So he and his other apprentice friend dragged the TT & S3 too see who was faster... Fregot who won this was a while back...

So yeah the apprentices that do pre delivery do drag the cars.. Same when u taking ur car for a service.. I'm pretty sure the Honda mechanics redline ur car after the service :D

yeah, redlined, emergency braked to avoid hitting the car, forgot to hit clutch, stalled the car. Restarted and went off in 1st till redline again because he was pissed. Hehe

well they have to make sure everything works. that inclueds fuel cut out.

Geeez... That's scary.... Wonder if I should go back to Honda... no one REDLINES my car... No One But Me :D

they wont harm your baby. redline is usually 500 to 1k bellow safty point anyway. as long as they dont crash it who cares if they give it some stick.

anyway they would rather thrash a s2000 or type S or R than an accord :)

at least I know I did,,, um I mean would

I got my euro to enjoy! I decided long before delivery that my car was going to have a hard life................

Then my girly took the keys and I have not seen them since.

Speaking of S2000, I was behind a yellow one yesterday at the lights. Had a modded exhaust. He took off and I took off too. Could hear him giving it a bit of EXTRA gas as it was loud, but I could keep up. I know he didn't get into high-lift mode because I didn't hear a change in the engine sound, but then again, neither did I :D

I kept up with him til the speed limit of 70km/h. Hehe... I know, it's not a race and racing is BAAAD. But it's nice to know that the Euro is not just all bark and no bite. Hehe

U got to remember that the S2000 is a 2.0 litre car and we have a 2.4 litre car... Which means that the lower part of the S2000 rpms like 1000-4000 rpms the euro will so keep up... Its the other high 5000 rpms that the S2000 will crap all over the euro...

Yup, that and that he had a pair of huge exhaust contributed to my keeping up. If he had kept up to 9000rpm, I would have to shift before him and wave bye bye to him as he leaves me behind.

i've hit 3500 k's and i still have'nt taken it in for my 1k check up -_- i better do it soon

but basicly my friends and that all told me not to push it until after 1000kms, the enginge or bolts or waeva needs to get use to driving and that
dunno if its true but better safe then sorry yea?

Yeah, better safe than sorry, but please take your car for it's 1k service. I think driving around for 2.5k over the scheduled service is probably worse for the engine than redlining it because your engine oil would be saturated with metal particles by now. Hurry hurry, book it in for the service!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can void your warranty if you miss the 1000k service...I would be getting it done ASAP...anyway, it runs heaps better after the oil change.

ECU-MAN

so they say.

I also agree with aaronng, not a good idea to miss the 1sr service.

Yeah, they just change out the mineral oil for the honda FEO synthetic stuff. they don't change the filter at the first service so there is still some mineral oil left over. this aint a bad thing, mineral oil provides less protection and helps break in the car.

Take your car in and get it serviced man, that is one thing you could probably loose your warranty over.
