My DC4 had a fit and the motor needs replacing as fixing the issues is cost preventative. But i have recently come into a DA9 complete car with the B18A1 motor installed and a B18B2 motor with issues "best they could tell me is a few sensors need replacing and there is an ecu issue". Now a friend is wrecking his DA9 and has offered me the motor out of his for nothing. Now i know that the transplants should be pretty straight forward being a B motor. Now I'm just wondering two things.

1. Are there parts from the DA9 i can use for the DC4 like the seat rails windscreen wiper fluid bottle and other bits and pieces......are even some of the engine components interchangeable?

2. I'm looking at boosting whatever motor I put in there which motor would people recommend? reasons why would be greatly appreciated.

I know the difference between the DC4 motor and the Vtech's but am completely clueless when its these two. Even if someone could point me in the direction of some resources on the two it would be fantastic.

Cheers.

Cost prohibitive? :P

Good luck with the swap.

First of all, you can't put the older DA engine into the DC legally- different emissions generations.
What are the issues on your current engine and the spare B18B?
Other compatible parts is pretty much limited to some suspension and brakes components, engines are mechanically compatible in almost every way, virtually nothing else will swap over
Turbo only depends on the condition of the individual engine- get compression and leakdown test done, but I find this an odd question given you have said you don't have enough money to fix the 'issues' on your current engine

I said it was cost prohibitive the price to fix it is almost as high as it is to replace it, there is money there been putting away the dollars for a while now. I just don't want to waste money on lost causes. The issues on the spare B18b i have no idea, seeing as the lot was at a steal i didn't see an issue with carting it off as well seeing as i can just send it to scrap worst case scenario.

So Mooshie there is no real difference between turbo'ing the B over the A? ones not stronger or easier or more reliable? It's used to be a daily driver now its been retired to the garage as a project car and use my CBR as transportation. Pretty much using it to learn what i can about the Honda mechanics, have a bit of fun and maybe applying it down the line to another vehicle, or hell even going all out on this one later. I haven't really decided on what the car will be in the end other than its an interest of mine and hopefully a decent hobby.

fair enough.
both the A and B B-series engines are quite similar, small difference in compression and cams and that is about it. As I said, you fill find far more variability in individual engines than between the different series.

If you are getting it for free then why not just pick it all up and play!
