Hi guys, I have recently bought a CD tuner for my car, but I have no idea on how to remove the factory radio. I have gone through the instructions in installdr but because there are some differences between the US version and the AU version of my car, I am stuck on the part where you remove the central control panel...
Thank again, and yes i have searched through google, the forum and youtube but have not had any luck with finding a tut... Sorry for asking this noob question!!

If its an ek.. There are two ways.
1) if u have those long thin alloy stereo removal thongs/rods then all u have to do is slide these to each side of the oem head unit until u hear a clip and u can push it no more.
Then pull the stereo out.
2) the hard way is to remove your stereo surround via the back (as most of the screw are behind the unit.
Then remove the other bottom screws etc etc.
Otherwise use the above links as per prev posts.

Have u figured out ur wires for:
+12 batt?
+12 ACC (switched)
Ground wires??
Those 3 are the important ones.
Once sorted, the speakers are easy to find.
U can use a AA batt to test speaker wires..
Otherwise, go to ur boot, and look under the rear parcel tray/frame and look at the wires that plugs in each speaker.
Now go to ur dash stereo wires and find the same wires. Those would be ur rear L R wires/speakers.
Then for the front, if u can access the plugs / wires of the speAkers them those would be ur fronts.
U may need to remove your door trims to access the speaker wires. Unlike EK's we can just remove the speaker covers and remove the speakers.
Get my drift?

yeah makes sense, thanks :)
the speakers isnt the problem, im happy to do battery style. However deciding which colors are which for power, switched power, illumination and ground are hard.
We worked out black is ground, red is the dimmer, red/black is illumination and yellow/red is switched 12v
what im confused about is, yet to determine which is constant 12v and also what the dimmer goes into. My alpine wiring only has yellow for constant, black for ground, orange for illiumination and red for switched power. So where does the dimmer go? Is it important>?
help much appreciated :)

im not sure what the colours are for the wires which have constant power but just turn the car off (key out of ignition). and hold a volt meter up to all of them the one which reads ~12v is your constant.
but u probs already knew that.

The battery is disconnected, I dont want to start anything because the cables are all unconnected and lose atm and i imagine they will just short on each other :|

get a bit of foam and jab all the ends into it so they wont touch each other.
then you should be able to reconnect the battery without issue then test the cables i cant remember if constant is a pair or if its just one cable on its own and you test it against the earth. but i did mine with the help of a friend and it works fine and we arent geniuses. so you should be good.

Bud,
Does the back of the oem HU (head unit) looks like this? And the stereo harness plug is the same?
If so, follow the wires to what goes where.

hey guys, i did all the soldering yesterday and its all done. the above picture worked except illumination was where acc/power was, so i switched those two.
Also the wiring diagram given last week on this thread was completely wrong, as there are no brown cables. however the other one i had was correct (did battery tests)
thanks very much everyone :)
