rusted coilover

hey guys, i just bought a pair of rusted coilovers (they were cheap) and the thread is completely rusted and cant be moved, is there a way to remove the rust from it?? ive read around and people are saying WD40 or soaking it in coke, can i please get any confirmations of this and some tips please?

Do you have pics of it by any chance?

Is the rust terminal or surface cause if its really deep, I wouldn't touch it...

Last thing you need is for the coilovers to crumple under force...

haha, no photos on me, they're sitting at my mates house, i believe it's just surface rust, is there a way to tell if its deeP?

Difficult to say without damaging the threads even more...

You could try checking the inside of the casing depending of the design of the coilover to see but the only other way is to remove the surface rust and hope you have metal underneath...

Cheers for this. Going to have a look at it over the long weekend. If anything would it be possible to run the springs on my stock struts?

You'll have to check the ID of the springs v your factory one as the coilovers sometimes run different ID to factory. You'll also have to check the spring rate, would be pretty unsafe to run really high spring rate on stock shocks, same with the height, if its too low then your shocks will KO lolz

I had some coils with surface rust on the thread, i just removed the surface rust with a wire brush and used a small triangular file on the sections that had heavy build up on the thread, problem solvered.

soak them in wd40/rp7/oil over night

should help loosen them free and problem solvered
