Well, it was a no brainer.

Safe to say - Accord Euro CL9's were imho honda's success, one of the reasons was due to the fact that they were assembling parts from the spare parts bin from other honda models, hence why we share similiarities to the TSX and the accord. and as much as we love accord euro's it sucks to know that our cars were actually made from their scraps lol.

When something a bit more original comes along like the CU2, which is 99% identical to the TSX version - it was a bit of a flop, and honda has lost their eye on the ball in terms of mid-sized sedan market.

I'm getting so annoyed with Japanese car manufacturers only giving us the boring versions of their cars; and when (by accident?), they actually give us something good that nets them heaps of cash and appeal, they scrap it for the boring base-models that only conservative middle aged public servants desire to drive.

Fredoops

We are not getting the TLX or the New Chinese Sporior

it's bigger than the Thai accord, it's got no place in the Australian Honda line up, it's not made in right hand drive.

Euro's are everywhere. So either they are scrapping it in the face of great sales (or maybe just cu2 failed?) or they made some kind of blunder in selling them too cheap (unlikely).

they *WERE* everywhere for the first generation.

2nd generation on wards it started it's slow death.

Besides, our market was irrelevant, the cash was from Europe (as the honda accord) and USA (as the acura tsx).

The CU2 Flopped in Europe, it was gone againest BMW 3, Merc C class entry level executives, and it pretty much flopped every comparison.

And in US it was killing Acura TL sales, so it has to go, as a result we have the TLX now in LHD countries.

The CL9 and CU2s were massive successes, the problem is that the new TLX and Spirior are only left hand drive, and volumes too small to build them in right hand drive.
Very sad as the Euro is IMHO the only stunning car in the Honda line up...my next car will be a smaller sedan, either the sportier Mazda 3 SP25 or fully loaded Toyota Corolla ZR.
No Hondas on the list.
VW may score as buyers may now purchase Jettas and Passats,in adition to Mazda 6s and Toyota Camrys.

Lol, you're crazy. The 'Stang's only got two doors.

Those here that did not buy a CU2 each have their own reasons. I have two reasons: 1) For such a 'largish' family car, it still managed to have very little room in the back seat. 2) Honda OZ handled the "pinging" issue as arrogantly as did VW with the DSG issue. I lost confidence in the car so I did not buy one.

Official figures from Honda is that 75000 Euros have been sold locally so far.
45000 are CL9s
30000 are CU2s

That's a lot of cars by the way...maybe Euro resale figures will climb over the years,as a lot of people will still want a used one .

Resale don't usually go up on killed models.

With the lifting of the p plater turbo ban I'd hazard to say the resale should drop by quite a bit

I've bought a.... Je
No. I've ordered a Genesis Ultimate... Putting money where my mouth was. I tried one for 3 days earlier this year. Very impressive car. I looked at the Benz E/BMW 5/Audi A6 and was underwhelmed at the cost of "options" that are standard on the Genesis. The car is 3 months away though.

I'm afraid that the current Accord just doesn't rate with me. And once you've experienced the serenity of the Genesis cabin (it's so quiet) and its luxury fit, finish and equipment, the Accord feels cheap. Granted, the cost of the top V6 is nowhere near that of the Genesis Ultimate but I couldn't stick with Honda this time around; after 5 five successive Honda purchases.

I know we are all honda nerds.. but the main reason people don't buy a car is due to styling.

the CL9 had good sales and the sister RB Odyssey had a huge increase in sales. Mainly due to the styling.

You look at the new accord and it looks like a ford falcon from 5 years back.

I would have got the V8 if it was available. I made the salesman swear that it wouldn't be available before I ordered the Genesis Ultimate. It sounds more likely that Oz might get the forthcoming (2017-2018) turbo V6 with equivalent power and torque of the V8. That might be my next car.

I'll still have two Honda's in the garage though; for now.

Genesis could be a game changer if marketed correctly. It took over 20 years for Lexus to become established and Toyota spend over $1b US dollars building the first Lexus LS400 in the late 80s. Hyundai need to do something similar like Toyota to get luxury car buyers to take notice and start buying into the brand.

With relatively unknown branding of Hyundai making luxury cars, resale will be savage with the Genesis.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZqFI2wtUVU

As they say in the video: Find the right Champagne glasses, level the bonnet, nice smooth and not sudden revving of the engine... Voila!

I didn't detect any vibrations from the Genesis V6 while I had the car for 3 days so maybe it could do the same. Imagine that, a car one third the price of an LS460.

I agree that Hyundai does not know as yet how to sell luxury cars in Australia. A bit like the criticism Ford dealers have copped earlier on knowing how to sell cars other than Falcon. If you have watched Hyundai since its beginning in Australia as the Bond Motor Corporation in Western Australia to now as I have, you'd know that it would be foolish to dismiss it. Just as foolish as the German dismissal of Lexus when it first started.

http://www.hyundai.com.au/about-hyundai/news/articles/one-million-milestone-for-hyundai-motor-company-australia

I'm taking a gamble on the Genesis. I know the resale will be low as for any expensive car but I intend to keep it for a while.

Disagree with the Lexus statement... No way did they take 20 years to establish. The LS400 released in the US in late 89 was an instant hit. Probably because Toyota were determined to build the best car in the world
world...And sell it at the right price.
The release of the IS series only 8 years after the first LS went on sale cemented Lexus place as a major luxury player by volume.

As for depreciation check MB, once the Gold standard for resale look at 2nd hand E class prices, then weep when you see S class!

The Genesis is an interesting one to watch, Hyundai are a serious outfit and it's probably high time the Koreans stepped it up!

The branding is confusing currently though, no Hyundai badge to be seen but no exclusive dealership experience either...

There is a big Hyundai badge on the boot lid. Apparently, many dealers in the southern states replace this with a Genesis winged badge. I wouldn't expect the current dealers to suddenly spend up big on new exclusive lounges etc. just for a car that sells at the rate of 50 per month Australia wide.
