Hey guys what are some thoughts on a royal purple oil? I plan to start using them on my car as I currently use Penrite. People tend to be using them. And if so which is the best one to use for a track and street use. Thanks

Might help if you start with what car, engine, mods, mileage, etc...

And RP, you'll see a lot of ppl saying its the best cause they don't know better, or the price tag indicates quality, etc... Others will say not worth it...

What engine etc. do you have and any reason why you are wanting to change from using Penrite?

If not race car , OEM Honda or equivalent is perfectly fine.

Personally I'd prefer penrite, nulon or castrol but some people like to spend more..

Its not as great as RP apparently...

If not RP my car might explode... Hence the justification for another 30-50 hit up =|

Doesn't really matter with intervals of 5k for a daily

Well I hear that it cleans your engine. My car is a del sol with a b16a2 with around 178xxx km. Have some bolt ones such as headers exhaust and a varex muffler. Also running on some short intake. Is it any good? Or could I get better ones than RP

Most reptutable brands do it, nothing new...

A lot of this Slee is branding, hype and perception.

As others have said, you're not actively racing so any tangible benefits of running premium oils [Fusion, HKS, etc] is minimal at best. Having said that, there are differences between brands, grades and etc but all dependent on your engine ie try it and see.

Most 'street' oils have detergents inside them and help 'clean' the oil. This is not something special to Royal Purple.

Sounds like you don't take your car to the race track, so I wouldn't suggest a 'race' oil (Motul 300V, Red Line Racing Series, Royal Purple XPR, Amsoil Dominator, etc). I would however suggest a good synthetic oil (Motul 8100 X-Cess, Red Line Street Series, Castrol Edge 0W-40, etc) and then change your oil after longer intervals. A good synthetic oil like the Motul 8100 X-Cess should be able to cover 10,000km of non-racing driving. It works out cheaper than an oil change every 5,000kms and does offer better engine protection than cheaper oils.

If you decide not to listen to anyone here, do yourself a favour first and do a search on Royal Purple and 'shearing'.

Sorry to hijack this thread off topic somewhat.

What would you guys recommend for a d16y daily?

Is there that big of an advantage for Castrol Edge 0w-40 vs Castrol Magnatec 10w-40? That's what I'm running on my 96 sol (b16a2).

Castrol Magnatec is Semi-syn while 0W-40 is Full-Syn... Both have same viscocity at operating temperature while Magnatec is 10W at cold temp vs Edge 0W at cold temp.

Other differences read up on what both claim and see if you believe it...
