2 engines, unfortunately neither of them is Japanese..

The S54 inline 6 in the current M3, one of the greatest engines ever made imo, powerful, very grunty and has an amazingly linear delivery.

The 3.8 flat 6 in the new generation Carrera S..very well balanced (I love boxer engines) and pretty damn powerful for the displacement (eagerly awaiting the twin turbo version, supposed to be even better)

as strong as the 2jz may be

It's C32A.

My vote between RB and 2JZ would be RB, because 2JZ's stroke is long. I like high revvers.

I agree, the M3's 3.2L engine is supreme! Lots of torque all around because of tuning such as balancing, lightening, polishing and intake/extractors plus, Double VANOS (essentially VTC on intake and exhaust cams)

Holden took a step back when they put that old pushrod thin in the VN (that whole car was a mistake)

2JZ has stronger stock internals than an RB as I read in HPI (huhu..it might be BS so dont quote me on that).. But in my opinion, I am quite fond of the new VQ35 (The nissan z engine. dunno if the code is correct). I think most of us prefer the RB simply because it was put into a GT-R and we like the GT-R's looks and attributes.

I think the RB26 is the best in Japan, but in the world I think you would be hard pressed going past one of the porsche engines. The M3 engine is very nice too

Maxima v6? Not a power house but really nice engineering. Oh the nsx is a c32 isnt it and the last legend was c35a not too bad. For all out power I would agree the rb26dett is weapon of choice depends on the needs i guess.

BMW M3 is the winner hands down...

Followed by the Mercedes Benz AMG SLK 32 Supercharged V6...and Porsche's Boxer 6.

After these, start thinking about the RB...

the VQ35? yeah i reckon its a nice engine and that's why Maxima, 350Z and infinitis' are using them... :D

VQ35...haha..I can name eight cars in Japan using differnet variants of the same powerplant.. Skyline V35, FairladyZ, Elgrand, Murano, New Cefiro (Maxima), Presage, Stagea, Fuga. Its smart how nissan use hte smae engine. Good cost cutting technique

I completely forgot about the M3 engine, dont know why....stupid me.

ALtho just thinkin about other engines, the 350Z's VQ35 responds very well to NA and FI mods, but stock its a little lack luster.

European wise also, no one has mentioned audi engines, the 3.2 V6 from the Quattro TT isnt the most powerful engine but its bulletproof from what ive read and responds well to all sorts of mods.

Doing a quick search of some stuff i found this, produced by Wards Autoworld. Top 10 Engines for 2005.

Audi 4.2 L V8 DOHC
Audi 3.2 L V6 DOHC FSI
Mercedes-Benz 3.2 L I6 DOHC CDI Turbodiesel
Chrysler 5.7 L V8 Hemi <--- Comes in the new Jeep, very very nice.
Ford 4.6 L V8 Modular SOHC
General Motors 4.2 L I6 Atlas LL8
Honda 3.5 L V6 J35
Honda 3.0 L V6 J30 IMA Hybrid
Mazda 1.3 L Wankel engine RENESIS
Nissan 3.5 L V6 VQ35DE

2 Hondas!!

As per the V8 thread, my vote goes to the Opel Cosworth V6 in its original (pneumatic valve sprung) form or even it its 'customer' (wire valve sprung) form, fantastic power:weight and packaging and allegedly a comparatively short development time.
