Ok guys, I have had a problem with my car for a while now.
Take last night for example, driving slowly through the city (you know what George Street is like on a friday night) I started making my way towards the Anzac Bridge where my car's revs were going high but the speedo needle was showing my speed decreasing at a rapid rate. My car just wasn't going anywhere.
So there I was, with my hazards on on the side of the road unable to move :(
It's happened to me a few times..sometimes it happens as I'm driving 70 k's p/h, other times when I'm driving heaps slow.
Any ideas as to what it can be? Has this happened to anyone else?
I've been told it's probably my gearbox ... and a new one will cost in the high $2000 mark and 'thats it not worth spending that amount of money on a car like that' (that comment just peed me off something severe).
I don't know what to do. Any help / advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Could be jumping out of gear?!?
was the car definately in gear when this happened? i had a similar prob. trying to get home after i had destroyed my box being an idiot, it kept jumping out of gear.
you can test it by taking it down a street with lots of bumps and seeing if it will jump out of gear.
As far as a new box is concerned, there's no point, i dont think there is such a thing as a 'new' box for an LS, your better off getting your box re-built, i did this and had it forged at the same time, set me back round $1500, but im in adelaide and anything to do with honda here is ridiculously rare or expensive, lol
Good luck!

how old/worn is your clutch?
and as far as "new" gearbox... it's more of a case of rebuilding your original gearbox... which can range from anywhere between $800-$2000 depending on what and how much needs replacing inside the box.
I've got a Y1 Cable gearbox off a CRX SiR sitting around that prob fits an LS ;)

My car is auto lol and I have no idea how old the clutch is
mr crex - wats this Y1 cable gearbox you're talking about?? (i have no idea!)
bennyBear - it feels like its slipping (?) I really don't know how else to explain it.

1. u dont have a clutch
2. a y1 will slightly make your car faster (if u knew how to drive manual) :)
did u do the oil change ??? ur gears are probably stuffed

yeah sounds like no trany fluid in the box, my mate did the same thing with his auto, didn't look after it, had no fluid in it at all and kept driving it around. The car will rev but will go no where. Any weird smells commin from the car. Like a smell that hurts ur nose and makes u wanna be sick?? U might be up for a new box. Look around some wreckers for a cheap one. I was quoted 600 for a second hand manual box.

lol @ fr33k. I DO know how to drive manual...i just choose not to!
And yep oil was changed on tuesday.
Car runs smooth as now, but this problem is still happening.
Flanderz - yep my car has a smell coming from it ... like burnt oil or something similar. Doesn't make me wanna be sick but yeah, pretty annoying.

I always thought it was a manual for some reason...
It sounds like the tranny's slipping to me, since you've changed the oil and it still does it (check its at the right level!). I'd also check whether the tranny's computer is throwing any codes, but it sounds like more of a mechanical than electronic (solenoid) problem.
Or possibly the oil was overfilled during the previous change? Happened to my Commodore and wouldn't move in 1st all all, and barely move in 2nd.
How are the gear changes when you're driving normally? Do you get a bit of lag between them where the revs rise slightly?
