I have an 04 vi. I've fitted a set of SEAS Lotus in the doors, these have pretty big motor structure but everything is possible if you wanna work at it.

Some concern with the Vi doors and how to take them off:
1. The hole cavity is very small. So this means speakers with large magnet motor structure will be a problem. To get around this you will have to make a baffle which is very thick. Mine is made out of 2 sheets of 18mm MDF board. If you have done this, you'll find that the panel won't clip back to the frame since the baffle is too thick. To fix this, I've modded the panels with a heat gun and reshaped the panel to fit. BE CAREFUL not to be overzealous with the heat gun as you might punch a hole through the grille if you're not careful. From personal experience, a new panel cost 500 bucks from Honda Dealers.

2. The doorpanels have a number of bolts holding it to the frame. First you must pull off the triangular corner pieces, around the side view mirror area. then pull off the plastic bit just below it (i.e. the bit that goes to the handle (NOT THE HANDLE U USE TO OPEN THE DOOR, just something you would grab if you are closing the door) in the panel as well. Then take off the bit of plastic covering the screws in the door handles (the handle that you would pull to actually open the door). Now u can see all the screws holding the panel onto the doorframe, 2 on the door handle, and around 3 or 4 scattered around the panel. Once all screws are off, take off the connectors for the power window, then pull out the panel towards you starting from the bottom to pull out the clips. Lift up to clear the locking thingo, and play around with the door handle to take it off.

3. Once the panel is off, you'll see a shitty paper cone woofer with some plastic baffle. The baffle is glued onto the frame and clipped. If you can work the glue, you can take the whole thing off without breaking the baffle. The clips are mounted so that you'll need to unclip the two bottom clips first and then push up to unclip the last clip at the top of the baffle. If you just pull out towards you, you will break the last clip at the top.

Hope that helps... but after reading your post again, it seems you were only asking for the size of the stock speakers. Well... i'm not gonna delete my post, so the answer to your question is that it's a 6". But as above, you can fit anysize if you want. Just depends on what you want to do with your stereo.

h17am, Thanks for your detail description! That's really helpful !
I personally think it's a 6" too, sort of standard for civic cars.

I wanted to get Response Kelvar Splits is good , but they are 6.5", need to get
professional to install.

Btw, Can you recommend any 6" splits that is around $150-$250?

Thanks !

the jaycars are the best splits in that price range with no real exceptions, next best in a lower price range would be to go for something like the hertz hsk165's

Why do you need to get professional to install 6,5" speakers? Does that mean you can install yourself a pair of 6" speakers? Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go at you Vtiboy, I'm just asking. Let me explain better:

1. The stock speaker is one with the mounting baffle. Hence the baffle is not reusable. Take it off and put it somewhere safe.

2. This means you'll need to work on a new mounting baffle to mount the new speakers to. Doesn't matter what size they are, you still need a new baffle. If you have no idea how to, then it's better to get an audio shop to do it for you.

3. This also does not mean that just because the Jaycars are 6,5" you need to get a pro to install. No matter what size the speaker is, you'll still need a custom baffle. Off course the bigger the speaker is, the harder it is to make the baffle fit behind the panel.

4. The concern with the door in the Vi is that the hole is very small. You will struggle to fit a big magnet speaker in it without using very thick baffles, as I've said previously. I have no idea how big the Jaycar's magnet and basket are.

Recommending a pair of speakers in the 150-200 range is not something I can answer as I have no experience. But from everyone I know, they have no problem recommending the Jaycar range of splits, whether you'd be satisfied with them is a different question altogether.
