Comptech icebox for vti-r or type r

hey guys

i am looking at buying a comptech icebox for my dc2r. I heard really good things about their performance but am asking now from people that have put one on a b18c motor. Is it louder than the stock airbox, for example if you were comparing it to a pod in the engine bay exposed or the stock airbox, which would it be more like.

The only reason im asking is because i have an exposed pod now on my car and i love the induction noise but i dont like the fact that i did it dodgy with plumbing pvc pipe to join to the original rubber pipe.

I like the neat sleeper look the icebox has but i wanna make sure im not buying a standard airbox coz i need some noise. I would appreciate anyone that put the box on their teg to tell me what they think.

not sure if it will be louder, but just having the exposed pod is really bad power wise.

Just put the stock box back on, and remove the resonator and make a cold air feed to the bottom of the airbox. itll be louder and you shouldnt really lose performance. it is still budget though, but it looks stock...

I have an Apexi Intake in the Comptech Icebox.
Yes it is louder than a stock airbox but it is not as loud as when I had my Apexi filter exposed in the engine bay. So if your comparing noise factor than the Icebox would be in between the two. It does sound much better than the annoying whisltling nosie you get from an exposed filter though.

i have a full comptech icebox kit its quieter than my old exposed pod not as loud when i cross over to vtec
it is though louder than stock but not by much

you will be very happy if you get the kit i felt some great gains from the intake and i already had a pod filter and still felt gains going to the icebox

hey typsy, does the apexi filter fit in the box neatly, that sounds like a pretty decent idea.

decided, once i get the cat back which im looking for atm so i can the jdm header i bought from hondar (champion) im gonna get the icebox. thanks guys

No it doesn't fit neatly you will have to cut the box up a little bit to make it fit neatly, otheriwse one end will not close up properly.

you still get a slight whistle with the competch kit

but no where near as loud as pod exposed :P

i was really happy with my Icebox i did a DIY if you wanna check in diy section...good luck man
