Hi all,

i currently have a EK1 civic and am loving it. Very fuel effecient and gets me from A to B just fine. Problem for me is that it is VERY VERY slow, its just looks too bland (i know i can "add" the JDM touches to it but i figured that it just wasn't worth it), 1 in 4 cars i drive past is a EK1 or the EK4 so its VERY VERY common.

I just read that the EP3 will be ready for import soon but i have grown to love the shape and feel of my EK so i want pretty much my car but faster and a more RARER "version" of my car, hence the search for the EK9 begins. I thought about getting the VTi-R version of the EK but thought that it just wasn't good enough for me so i wantd to opt up and go for the Type-R.

I considered chucking in a B16a, but its just so much of a hassle and i want all the options of the type-r (power windows, sunroof, recaro seats etc) that my EK1 does not have so its just common sense to buy a new car.

i have a few concerns though:
1. exactly how RARE is the EK9 considering it is quite old now and in what condition will i be able to grab one at
2. i live in NSW and will i be able to register the EK9 here in NSW or will i have to register it in another state that does not have such "tight ass" laws
3. what figure will i be looking at for the car itself and the importing fee's (i am a total n00b to this sort of thing so if anyone can point me to some website for readings on imports it would be greatly appreciated)
4. EP3 vs EK9, i personally like the EK9 look and feel better, however the EP3 will be extremely rare and i will be one of the first ones or hopefully the ONLY one here in NSW driving one :)

If anyone can help out a n00b it would be greatly appreciated. Any websites or what not for research and information regarding importing vehicles and where to look from would be greatly appreciated....

Cheers all

its hard to personal import it... unless its alrady been registered by previously owner... good luck lookin for it... i only know there is 1 EK9 in NSW.

P.S. EK9 has no sunroof.
no type R was ever made factory with sunroof. as it would destroy the stiffnress of teh body.

firstly, welcome... secondly, this is one of the most widely asked civic questions so plz do a search and you'll get more info than u could possibly think ;)

but in a nutshell, impossible to import an ek9 unless it's a personal. only other chance u have of getting one is buying one that's already in australia... and from my guess and seeing for myself, there's maybe dozen or less ek9s floating around, most of them in VIC.

my advice if u want more power in an EK is to buy an EK4 and do it up yourself. there are heaps of things u can do to make it different, just check out the EK pics thread (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23978) , plenty of inspiration there. or keep urs, and swap in a b18c cos there's no point swapping a b16a/b if u can get more power and torque from a b18. and with that extra grunt, it'll be as fast or even faster then an ek9... only just not as rare.

Rarity comes at a price or otherwise, it would not be a rare car in Australia.

My X-Trail is the only one in Aus and that was a 14 month wait with the personal import scheme.
