hey,
I need help choosing a turbo that suits my motor that ive spent the last year building,
below is a vague list of what i have to give you an idea of build

Darton sleeved block ( 2.0 lt )
rods
Forged pistons (comp just over 9)
head ported with complete head build up
lsd
billet axles

basically its fully built etc, that can handle Big power
aim is to make over 250kw at wheels

my question is by choosing a smaller turbo with quicker spool more fun on the street than say a larger turbo that takes longer to spool but put more power thru the top end of the rev range?

garret 3037s (a bit of lag but safe for what you want)
or the 2871r (really good response should be able to get 250 with it)

personally i'd go for the 3037s
full boost will kick in about 4000ish rpm.
and it will but a masssssssive smile on your face!
lol.

3540 is WAY too big for your application.
650hp turbo.
the lag on a sr20 is just over 4500.
not worth it dude.
you loose so much bottom end.
you don't have the bottom end power to match it with.

Garretts are the way to go, not too expensive, but very reliable. See if you can find a kit that suits your needs, piecing one together isn't fun anymore, takes to long. Is the way to go if you have time and money.

Id personally go a GT3037.
a GT35R if u want 300kw.

even a gt25/30 would prob b ok for your application. Quick spool for streetability and would be able to produce enough power without lagging... they're an awesome street turbo to keep you quick from wen u put ur foot down.. anyway, thats my 2c

if i were u id be looking into the gt30r/gt3037s/gt35r ... all fairly big turbos 35r being the biggest, if ur getting a sleved block and all that ull be wanting big power and more of it later on once u get 'bored' therefore if ur just streeting the car id got the 30r or if it will see a lot of drag acion if go with the 35r and gain much more top end.... up to you

You haven't mentioned what kind of driving this is for... can't help you until you give more information.

the othe rthing about the larger turbo's, if u will need to run race gas when pushing ~23+psi on the street. Just keep that in mind, i like to hit max effciency on my setups at around the ~20psi mark.

I agree. Or you could piece up a BB GT28/40. these will come on real hard and push 30psi all the way to redline. A mate with a cosworth has this setup - it is unbelievable for a 2lt street car (411whp)
