I got a bit of a problem regarding my steering ive upgraded to 18" wheel and done wheel balancing after ive notice vibrations on the s/wheel when Im driving @ 90km or more. After the balancing same thing is happening but this time when it hits 100kmh and up. Ive dropped the tyre pressure down to 40psi but it didnt do much difference.
Any suggestions?

wheels 2nd hand?
tyres could also have flat spots.

2nd that. Also, get your wheels balanced again...some guys do a bad job, some do it well.

somtimes it just doens't matter how much you put the wights on, if the wheel is buckled enough, it's game over.

yup - if u drive on a buckled rim it will eventually put a stress crack thru it...and cause some sort of accident so dont risk it.

wheels not buckeld or anything... i might try and rotate wheels around, front-back.. it might make a difference a got a bit of camber on front tyres

think about how thing your tyres are mate.. they are 18s for fooks sake lol

does it even have a side wall ??

ur bound to pick up any bump, crack and dent in the road.. and when ur going at 100km/h imagine how many bumps ur tyre would get through..

the tyres usually lead to vibrations in hub.. which connects to steering arm.. that connects to steering rack that connects to steering wheel. so any hiccup that ur tyre picks up will eventually lead to ur steering wheel

my suggestion is if u dont want the vibrations get a size tyre that is more comfortable to ride on say a 16 or 17 with a decent side wall

and not on rubber bands :D

what are you on about? that's not quite true.
my audi is rolling on 19's 35 profile rubber, dropped that it;s about 7-8 cms off the ground, at 160km/h no vibration.

Are you using the centering discs? I had huge trouble on an Alfa GTV until I got some small alloy machined rings that are shaped to centre the wheel on the hub, they are $5 each from any wheel place, fixed the problem, when you put a wheel on it doesnt always centre itself on the studs, this is what I found with my Alfa, on my DA9 I found my alloys had plastic centering rings, so I replaced with the alloy ones and could feel the difference.

it dosent matter of size or profiles etc people.
The main reason for "wheel vibrations" is if something is out of BALANCE.
Wheels / rims / alignment....

In the best interest to keep a thread on topic its best to clarify.

Have you fixed your problem yet civic 99 ?

yeah, i have a 91 ls teg.. wen im driving more than 90kms/hr and up aswel i get bad steering vibrations..which i never used to get berofe:confused:
i have ma car lowered pretty low, an hav 17 with an 40 profile...but i have had these for a year or more, and there was no problems...plus i have the right amount of air in all tyres, and tyres conditions look perfect!

so wat the hell is the problem?

my mate reckons it could be the power steering???
this tru???
or is it something else?

no. it isnt the p/steering coz if i have my steelies on. its doesnt do any vibr8s. i think its the tread wear. i just rotated my wheels front to back and its better than what it was

but ma tyres look lik new! so it cant be tread on mine..so if its not power steering than it must be...either in the steering shaft etc...or ma wheels need a balance an a alignment should i get them first before i get a mechanic 2 look @ anythin???

plus i had a alignment done lik aug or sept last yr..for all ma wheels..so i must need only a balance..or should i just get both this time?????

plus would a balance fix this? i cant remba the last time i got a balance done maybe nearly 2yrs ago..since i got ma wheels/rims wit ma 40 profile tyres...

so yeah....a balance den?

Time isn't the only thing that affects your wheel alignment. Rough roads, driveways, speed humps, changing rims or suspension components etc will all affect the balance and harmony of your ride.

Thinking along the lines of "but I only just got an alignment 6 months ago" isn't really going to help you... And man, If all you need is an alignment, you're laughing! (Which, by the way, does sound like the case here.)
