hi there,

as some of you may know, i have previously applied silicone sealant around the screws of my boot door after installing a spoiler... (as advised by some fellow ozhonda members, as a method of eliminating rain water from getting in)

what i want to do now is take the spoiler off, so im wondering what methods are used to take that silicone sealant off?

thanks.

I hope you didn't put sealant on the head of your screws!

Use a proper battery powered drill/screwdriver with the appropriate bit, remove the screws first. Then remove the spoler. Finally, push though the holes on your boot with an stick of correct diameter, so you dislodge the silicone. Then peel off from the rear.

actually... i put silicone sealant on the whole screw... it covers the entire screw like a mountain..

although my screws are of a pentagon shape so i can get it off without having to use da filips head screw driver..

now the problem lies for me is i need to get the silicone sealant off b4 i can even unscrew the screws... hope im not screwed. (no pun intended)

I'd use a knife to make a path to the screw. But be 100000000000% CAREFUL NOT TO SCRATCH YOUR PANEL. If you slip, your knife will cut through your paint and stuff it up..........

I've used a knife to remove silicon sealant. It was for bathroom repairs though. Just make sure you stick cardboard or something to protect the panel from slips. You may want to wear some leather gloves as well as you have to use a fair bit of force to cut through the silicone and it is very easy to slip. Make sure you use a very sharp knife as well so you don't have to press as hard. And just take your time with it.

there is a warning on it that it may be harmful to paint, but it not specific enough to what type of paint.
