have u tried taking the cover back off the air box?
sounds like it was fine b4 hand... go back to taking it off... see if it still does it or not... got to isolate the problem. but we can pretty much safely assume that the problem began when u banged the cover back on... soo lets begin there shall we.

I dont think it'd be the airbox cover cause the problem only occurs when its in reverse or straight after i've used reverse. Couldnt get the car on the hoist today so it'd be next week.

I don't think there's anything to do with the banging the top cover. unless you banged it extremely hard until it moves some parts to the way it shouldn't be :b LOL

but it can be your gearbox gears or the shafts.

When we were fitting the CAI on my car last week we had to play around with the adjustments to make sure it didn't hit the gear selector. Is there a possibility that in hitting the airbox bak down you've pushed it onto the selector? I'd assume it's not too different to the DC5 in it's location. Just a guess.

completely different to the dc5 doubt the airbox has anything to do with it

jack up the car on jack stands with it off and try to replicate the situation and see if it gives you a similar noise.
