if you DIY a b16a conversion should be under 5 grand. yes, you will have traction problems but get good suspension and tyres and an lsd and it will help reduce traction issues.

If you do it urself yea, well under 5k.. even under 3k in most cases for a good b16a2 1/2 cut
If your not going to do it yourself, 5k is around the mark that most places charge for it...
I know hondworld down here in oakleigh melbourne do it for 5500 my friend got quoted.. but they are the dodgies ... people.... ever ... .. i wont go into detail
tsh0nda got his done for the 5500 mark as well.. but he got his cheaply and was using an EK sir (hope he doesnt' mind me telling this ^_^)
I got mine done for 3k but that was jus a disaster .. if anyones offering u 3k for a full conversion includ. labour then dont do it >_<
Im not sure about the EDs, but if your goin to chuck a b16a in it and drive it seriously, front and rear discs and possibly a bigger master cylinder are a must..
Traction problems like h22a accord can be solved with good tires and suspension setup... [acronym:54a1d2746e="Limited Slip Differential"]LSD[/acronym:54a1d2746e] is optional in the b16aIIs but if u arnt lucky enough to get one (like me and danny) then u can source any b series gearbox with [acronym:54a1d2746e="Limited Slip Differential"]LSD[/acronym:54a1d2746e] and install that

Im getting the conversion done at the moment with a B16. Ill let you know how it goes and what it all adds up to. But I am doing everything proper and not taking any shortcuts, so my costs for the conversion are going to be quite high due to the parts that I want to use, compared to what you could get it done for.
Traction might be a problem, but get a decent suspension setup and wheel/tyre combo and it should be fine. You would want to upgrade brakes too.

Guys - an ED swap is not the same as an EG or EK swap - if you use the hasport mounts, they alone will set you back over 500 bucks US.
FUR30S go to http://www.4thgenerationcivic.com/ and http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1135 to talk to people who have acually done the ED conversion. They are US sites, but the info is the same - except we have better access to front cuts than they do. A realistic price is 5K plus including all your parts etc.
Persoanlly, I'd do a ZC or [acronym:cb68e10d15="Single Overhead Cam"]SOHC[/acronym:cb68e10d15] [acronym:cb68e10d15="Valve Timing and lift Electronic Control"]VTEC[/acronym:cb68e10d15] D16 swap as they bolt in rather than needing different mounts - 30bhp down on a B16A, but you will be disappointed with the B16A anyway after a while. Ideally you want an EF8 or EF9 front cut - even then you will have mount and axle issues, not to mention having to set up for EFi instead of carbs.
EDs really need the EF9 or EE9 (Euro B16A powered Civic) front brakes plus their disc brake rear end - not to mention heavier suspension as the B16A is a lot heavier than the D15.

ZC is the 130bhp motor from Japan, the D16 (D16Y8? Guys - help me out here - the 130bhp [acronym:47edbb5273="Single Overhead Cam"]SOHC[/acronym:47edbb5273] [acronym:47edbb5273="Valve Timing and lift Electronic Control"]VTEC[/acronym:47edbb5273] D16 anyway) was out of the VTi EGs and one of the EK/EM lineup.

Yeah, what I had to order from hasport to do the conversion was the engine mounts, shift linkage, left hand engine bracket (Dont know if its 100% needed, I thought I would get it and see), and axles. I also ordered some braided brake lines coz there cheap in America and it came to just under $1000usd + delivery was another about $150usd.
If you can find a EF9 front cut it saves having to buy all that stuff, but they are very hard to find. I tried for a bit, but I got impatient and just got a integra engine instead.
Or now you can just import a EF9 under the 15 year rule and save yourself all the hassle if you want. You can get one easy for under 10 grand. Only reason im doing a conversion is coz I got this car cheap.

Good luck finding an EF9 under the 15 year rule - the EF9 was built late '89, not '88 like the other EF/ED/EEs, there were less than 1000 of them apparently. With the under 15 year rule changing at the end of this year, I doubt many will make it out, they are still a popular enthusiast car in Japan. Better to find one that came in as a very grey import before the rules changed there too. ;) I have an order in for the [acronym:883eaa6394="Japanese Domestic Market"]JDM[/acronym:883eaa6394] auctionsif anyone finds an '89 EF9 - after 7 months, it's not looking good. :( Just as well I have one already I guess ;)
BTW - [acronym:883eaa6394="Single Overhead Cam"]SOHC[/acronym:883eaa6394] [acronym:883eaa6394="Valve Timing and lift Electronic Control"]VTEC[/acronym:883eaa6394] D16 motor for sale here: http://www.ozhonda.com/viewtopic.php?t=4025

Oops - to clarify - the EF9 was late '89 to '91 - you will prolly never see a post '89 car come in under the 15 year rule again though :(

Is your Civic Fuel-injected ? (PGM-FI)
the EF/ED civic's are cable-tranny, so you can get an integra DA6/9 B16A1 front-cut for about $1500 and you're looking at at least $1,000 labour assuming you have EVERYTHING you need in the front-cut.
B16A1's are cheap cause they are older and are cable transmission.. therefore cheaper.
B16A is EG and EK [acronym:148fc881ad="Japanese Domestic Market"]JDM[/acronym:148fc881ad] SiR's = hydraullic tranny and newer which means more expensive..
B16A2/3 is USA, AUS, CAN etc EK civic and Del-Sol engine (non [acronym:148fc881ad="Japanese Domestic Market"]JDM[/acronym:148fc881ad]).
I have D16Y1 [acronym:148fc881ad="Single Overhead Cam"]SOHC[/acronym:148fc881ad] [acronym:148fc881ad="Valve Timing and lift Electronic Control"]VTEC[/acronym:148fc881ad] I am selling for $600 plus [acronym:148fc881ad="Engine Control Unit"]ECU[/acronym:148fc881ad] if you are interested.. not being pushy, personally I'd say get a DA integra Frontcut, but my [acronym:148fc881ad="Single Overhead Cam"]SOHC[/acronym:148fc881ad] [acronym:148fc881ad="Valve Timing and lift Electronic Control"]VTEC[/acronym:148fc881ad] is a great little motor and keeps up with B16's and even B18's.. and in your much lighter ED chassis..whoa could be faaasst.. and if you want to throw some extra $$ at it for a slight rebuild and turbo kit.. you are looking at one super-fast and lightweight car !!

Your going to have a very hard time finding a B16a frontcut for $1500, dont know if I would trust it either if I did find it.
