Got an update from Ralph Moore today. They are expecting the first lot of windscreens to arrive towards the end of the week. So fingers crossed we'll be ready to go by early next week. Almost time for me to book a flight back up to Sydney...

the actual mirror housing might be ok perry (similar to the euro's), but it's the mirror support/bracket that might need attention.

The EP3 and DC5 have the same suspension structure and basic floorpan but the rest is very different. I am guessing the shell/glass/interior is where most of the weight comes from. Do EP3s have a steel or aluminium reinforcement bar under the rear seats? The DC5R bar is aluminium.

If you want to lose weight with no loss of comfort or function I would start with replacing the front seats, the bonnet, and the exhaust with lightweight items. You might lose 25-50 kg with those items. I lost 10kg just by replacing my exhaust.

Nepolian
26-05-2009, 02:18 PM
There's not much in terms of weight. Mine comes in at 1180 at WSID scales. Dont worry about weight on a street car, just make more power :p

Hey all, as most of you have read, i broke my engine mount (driver side liquid filled piece of crap) and as trivett (were most car parts come from) parts told me that the dc5r mounts were different i went out and bought some hasport mounts.
apon buying them from JDM yard, yonas also advised me that they are the same as a dc5r ( for future reference) so i got home and opened the box to an awsome glow of polished alloy mounts. once installed (took about 2 hours for all 3) the car was better then stock to drive, it was a much tighter feel between shifts, less pedal used to accelerate and just a nicer drive all round
although the downside being at idol the vibration is more than the stock mounts but you can live with it
in short, buy some :)

it is possibly the best positioned stock shifter ever made, the whole idea is getting the shifter closer to the wheel so its faster to reach from your steering sheel whilst still having a short throw, i love it and after u drive it for a day, so will u :)

Funny how people are always quick to judge on the shifter position (usually negative) on the EP3!

I have had many different import performance cars and this is one of the best ones to drive. Except for maybe the JZA80, that wasn't too bad!

just a quick question that might sound noob, but is there any difference between the stock HID's and aftermarket HID's?

and also if i want to go whiter, would i have to change the whole bulb set?

how do you know if you got HID's?

OEM HID and aftermarket HID are diff. the balast is more intergrated for the OEM and the bulb is diff.

for colour change, u need to change bulb. oem is the best i reckon. aftermarkets are usually blue/purple = good look but bad for visibility.

man you can't tell if u have HID? the lights emit by both are very different. maybe take a pic and post up.

when you say change the bulb, do i just buy, for example plain old white bulb from your local autobarn?? or does it have to be something special
?

Philip Lee

i doubt autobarn sells HID bulb....

you should find out if u have OEM or aftermarket first as the bulb is diff.

Definately better then the stock rubbers. Really grippy and also has a nice finish. The stock pedals look ugly and just didnt go with the car. Im happy i paid 160 for them. I wouldn't pay 300 which i think some people are selling them for. 300 bucks could go towards something else e.g performance mod

well they type R is designed as a car u can drive on the street during the week and on the weekend take it straight onto a track with no problem. although it has to compensate for both road (bumpy) and track (smooth) the springs are quite firm for the track yet drives comfortably on the street.
all in all its got great handling setup with a bit of oversteer which is fun in the corners and very sensative steering with little play, take one for a drive and u will understand

In respects to being stock, they are very good. Being a Type R, you'd expect it to be on the firm side.

I know of a EP3 with light mods do 1.15 laps around wakefield, drive on drive off.

I drove a stock 2001 EP3, very impressive ride for the level of firmness and extremely stiff chassis. I should be picking up my 03 EP3 tomorrow that has the Mugen Sport Suspension on it, will let you guys know how it is when I get the car. Initial impression though, is that it might be too stiff for my liking on street whereas the stock suspension felt spot on from my short time with it.

That said, both of my impressions were done on different quality tarmac so its not exactly an apples to apples comparison (in addition to the fact I didn't spend much more than 15 minutes with either car yet).

I've got the Mugen sports suspension on mine aswell. It came with it. I'm not really sure what the handling of stock feels like. But I get alot of oversteer and sometimes I feel like i can't go that fast around corners. But overall i'm happy with it.

Two general reasons why gearbox is notchy, oil and engine mounts. I generally point to mounts!

The gearbox is very strong, unless it has been neglected and tracked (lots) there should be no issues with it.

Thread up very soon!

So just checking, is this the route your talkin about?

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=218+Pennant+Hills+Rd,+Thornleigh,+NSW+2120&daddr=Berowra+Waters+Rd,+Berowra+Waters,+NSW+2082+ to:Wisemans+Ferry+Rd,+Maroota,+NSW+2756+to:454+Chu rch+St,+City+of+Parramatta+New+South+Wales+2150&geocode=%3B%3B%3BFTIp_P0d9isACQ&hl=en&gl=au&mra=dpe&sll=-33.601399,151.127511&sspn=0.002784,0.005386&num=10&ie=UTF8&z=17

looks pretty good, doesnt look as twisty/fun as putty rd but not as far either so looks like a good route overall.

might aswell go get some aftermarket, alot of people find it much better though there might be abit more vibration but hey, more power to the ground lol

also make sure to change ur gb oil regularly and u should be sweet

Yeh I am looking at getting some really soon. Hopefully that will fix the gear box tightness.

They are heavy, especially when you compare it to others. Guesstimate would be 11-12kgs.

i think you will need to roll the rear guard a little bit.
Front will fit perfectly.
I have the same offset for my car but i am using 18x8. but should be very similar outcome as the 17
