Do you get the noise also when u turn ur steering wheel side to side ??

If this is the case then its most probably a steering rack issue. Common problem with ep3's. I had mine make a noise which got fixed up at hanny's. Basically all they did was lube up the steering rack to stop the noise. That noise u hearing is only a rubbing noise and is nothing to worry about. I got told by mechanic and read on uk honda type r forums that its not a safety issue and just a annoying noise. Some people in uk actually just drive with it and ignore it. But i hate noises so i got hanny's to fix it. Alot of ep3's in uk had this problem and got their steering rack replaced under warranty only to later on down the track get the same issue again with the new steering rack. If you are good with lubing ;););) and can b bothered all u need to do is pull back the rubber boot on ur steering rack and spray some lube inside. Not sure what lubricant hannys used cause it was done a while ago and i forgot :(
No noise when turning side to side. Thanks for the info. I'll get it looked at when my next service is due at Hanny's

Osaka is famous for OKONOMIYAKI!!...have to try before you leave that place...hehe...

Phil, how much did the super streets set you back?

of cos I tried Okonomiyaki. I also tried the crab sets, fuku set and Kobe beef.

The super street is very cheap, close to half of tein rrp but it wasn't fun taking it back with me lol

do you want a genuine honda key? or happy with the generic ones that look similar? most master locksmiths should be able to do it. and they just need the key.

I just want a spare key. Doesn't matter Honda or not but I tried a few locksmith but none can do it because of the Oem immobilisor.

was the immobiliser an option or standard in facelifts? also, do you have an aftermarket alarm system? dont they usually override oem systems?

in any case here are some links in regards to cutting and programming keys

the immobiliser is standard on facelifts. i have aftermarket alarm/immobiliser as well but i'm not sure if it overrides anything.

i'd think the oem ones are built into the ECU so i'd probably need the factory key + the remote for my car to start.

ps. thanks for the link.

didn't need to pay any tax cos i travelled with my family (ie 2 adults + 2 kids so tax free allowance is $2,700).

i quite like Jetstar actually (international at least, never fly domestic). the seat is better than say Singapore Airlines etc and more leg room. plus i don't eat much during a flight anyway.

Car sound upgrade is always a must unless the stock runs a really good one, like gtr 35 runs 8.1 BOSE systems lol

Philip Lee
13-10-2009, 04:42 PM
it depends on the type of cars.

in a Type R which supposed to be light weight, i won't bother to put an amp with a big sub. but i'd definitely replace the crap oem speakers.

yeah as I know mazda 3 is running Bose system for stock,IMO maybe a 10 inch sub will be sweet and won't be that heavy, but definitely need an amp,If not considering sub then maybe will be good to put a pair of 6x9 on parcel tray

Get an Alpine head unit. Good value for money :) Get a 3preout head unit if you want to put an amp. I can feel a difference when I take my amp, sub & spare wheel off. Feels heaps lighter. LOL

KaZe86
13-10-2009, 05:38 PM

Philip Lee
13-10-2009, 05:45 PM
I do run a removable small sub with a built in amp just to fill in some bass.

but a Type R has minimal sound deadening anyway. so from the start it's not good for sound quality. so might as well save the $$.

but if you get the stuff for free, why not lol.

i agree Alpine is pretty good. i got a cheapo one with ipod control and usb and it served me well with my JDM Alpine DDLinear speakers. i decided to get this over the Type R because of its efficiency. it doesn't need an external amp to run it well.

KaZe86
13-10-2009, 05:48 PM

My whole setup is alpine until last weekend yen I went out and bought a sub lol. But like Phill said there isnt much sound deadening so it does sound pretty crap compared to my last cars.

wat question???? LOL aye aye since when did u get headers!!!

Mugen_B16B
17-10-2009, 07:22 PM
i think your refering to the rear one seeing if u got the left and right mounts it prob come as a set of three with the 3rd being the rear mount, its a bitch to get in!!! but all u gotto do is hoist the motor up abit and lean it forward so u can remove the bolts that hold the mount to the bracket, not unbolt the bracket from the frame cause that makes it a hell of alot hard to remove the main bolt from the mount itself

a lil advice, when putting it all back make sure its all aligned straight when screwing back in, i had mine on an angle and it was GG for my bolts, all threaded besides one so i ended up drilling it to fit a bigger bolt in

hope that helps

Would you guys have considered an s2k if it werent for the fact that you needed the extra seats? do any of you plan to move to an s2k after the EP3, or onto turbocharged cars?

What are your future aspirations for car ownership?

Personally, I want to one day own an M3 and hopefully something beyond that but if I do change cars before that, I'd be looking at doing a S2k up or buying an Evo (if I needed to keep things practical).

I came from a s2k stock for stock Ep3 is more fun to drive due to S2k lack in bottom end torque but up high its good. Looks wise s2k AP2 I mean. If you got a deep pocket for the S than yeah its worth it.

Probably something quieter and more comfortable. The new MeganeSport looks great, maybe new Golf R that is coming out soon. Then theres 135i, maybe Evo but i hate how you can't fold down the seats! and the stupid subwoofer in the boot!

yup add the 4th one in. Just picture the engine when ur redlining then snapping it to second, picture the engine movement, it would b rocking backward and forward so if u shove ur 4th mount in it would help

4th mount is probably for the front! Wouldn't hurt to use it. Benefits would be small!

Try and feed the power down by slipping the clutch off the line. This will reduce the wheel spin and improve 60' times and also assist in the vital 1st - 2nd gear engagement.

Steve.....you know that a good run for an stockish EP3 with small mods can do 13.9-14.1, as a few of us have done.

It's all good getting the mods but practice is often overlooked :)

Flatshift FTW......!!!!!!!!!!

Stiffer sussy will reduce that! Practice a little more on that and shifting between gears! Thats where the times will improve ;)

It's all good getting the mods but practice is often overlooked :)

Flatshift FTW......!!!!!!!!!!
flatshifting lol, im getting abit better at 1st to 2nd, my 2nd to 3rd is much better, i think my 1-2 syncros r starting to go, alot of crunching

so where has everyone got their engine mounts from ?

Various places, 2nd hand (used), JDM yard, Shift, Ebay .....etc

I have heard from a few ppl that sellers on Ebay for some reason are very unreliable with postage. A close friend waited a week, then got a email that the mounts was on back order, but got offered another style for $xxx more?? Not happy he was!

They do pop up in the for sales quite regularly....

If you're worried about noise and vibrations! Stick to stock mounts!

Best see and get a ride with someone with mounts :)

Same, innovative mounts have ruined the NVH :P

Great value due to our great exchange rate with US, around $300 shipped i think.

Mugen mounts might be the way to go for NVH.

Just wondering how to change the gear box oil in our cars? Is there a plug like the oil sump has and how does it be refilled? I no this sounds like a stupid question but I have neva done it b4

It is fairly easy if you have done minor DIYs like changing your oil before. There is a drain plug at the bottom of the gearbox on the passenger side that takes a 3/8" drive to undo and then there is a fill bolt (17mm socket) a little further up in the same area of the gearbox. Fill it until the excess spills out the fill hole with the car level, it should take about 1.8L. Both plugs have aluminium crush washers on them so if you wish to replace them (which is a good idea) you will need a 14mm and 20mm crush washer.

I use a funnel taped to a medium length bit of hose to fill it but you could use a small hand pump if you are baller.

What suspension system is everyone running? I'm after a setup that is sporty yet comfortable as I use this car as my daily driver. I was thinking of getting the TEIN basic damper.

Thanks

if ur confident then do it urself, but if ur not then take it to the shop, not to hard but i had a forklift as my engine crane to hold it up as i removed my 2 side mounts and the rear i tilted the motor forward so it was leaning so i could remove the rear and replace, if u got a engine crane it would help heaps

you will need to pull the switch for a few extra second after closing the window and it should work.
