what alarm is it for?

last time my alarm played up like that the car battery was dying.
Otherwise it sounds like your alarm module itself it gone.

Remotes only signal the alarm, they don't do much else

It dosn't sound like your remote you might have a crossed wire somewhere take it to someone to have a look or get a quote to repair from an auto electrician might be your best bet..
