Hey,

just been doing some thinking :eek: re: brake bias using Honda parts to upgrade a Ek civic.

My question is, can we move the brake bias approx 10% rearwards on a Civic, and not get rear lockup under good (dry, level ground, lowered sus) conditions?

I haven't taken into account the proportioning valve.

parts in question are:

front:
2050 Civic 262mm Ek brake caliper, 50mm piston.
17CL15VN ITR brake caliper, 57mm piston,

rear:
7CLP13s Ek brake caliper caliper, 30mm piston.
9CLP14s ITR brake caliper, 34mm piston.

In OEM configuration, the brake bias rear/front is approx 35%
57/34 35.5% DC2R/Ek9
50/30 36.0% EK1/EK4

Common upgrade, front only.
57/30 27.7%

Using 23T caliper bracket+pad and 2050 caliper with 9CLP14s rear brakes
50/34 46.0%


Any thoughts?

PS I used the area to calculate the ratios (pi * radius ^ 2).

hmmm i'm no specialist but i have the ITR caliper & rotors + stock ITR pads on my Ek4, without the brake booster upgrade, i've noticed the stopping power is 100% improved and haven't noted any rear lockups.

I've tested my brakes by locking them up till the ABS engages and the rear does not swing out or anything.

Is that wat you wanted to know?

basically, will rear ITR brakes on stock civic fronts will throw the balance out too far?

mine is non-abs. I think they are very different from a brake bias perspective under aggressive braking situations.

i'm only running front ITR calipers & rotors, i have standard ek4 rears

the proportional valve allows you to adjust this.. the valve works by the suspension if the suspension is lower then the valve thinks its got more weight in the back of the car and there for can brake harder on the back with out locking up.... (classicly seen on a VN commodore with 4 bogans in the back seat and when they get out the cars ride height matches a landcruiser) ;)

its really common with the mini trucks, its not hard to adjust and get it correct.

a good adjusting should be able to fix your problem.. this doesnt matter if its ABS or non ABS either.

Only twin circuit adjustable valve I know of is AP-Racing and costs $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

However, the question is not so much being able to adjust the brake bias, rather, can I move the bias backwards by 10% and not experience rear lockups.

its all trial and error i guess i dont see it being a problem u do know that its about 80% of braking is done on the front brakes and being fwd u want the extra weight distrubution on the front wheels to give you more grip
