Hey everyone.
Can anybody tell me is there an advantage in installing a 4.4 final drive to a integra vti-r b18c gearbox or is that what comes in it already or should i go 4.7.
Thanks

It's already 4.4

What are you planning to do? What's your driving routine? Any freeway use? Anything 4.7 or higher will annoy the hell outta you if you drive at speeds 100km/h and over.

ill do shorter gear ratios. 4.4 is a good final drive. Change the gearing and you'll be set

cool thanks guys, i do freeway driving every now and then but i wanna drag the car and take it to the track to race every now and then, it is a high hp na build. at the moment it was about 3.5k at 100kmh.

A higher final drive lowers all your gearing. It gives you a better acceleration at the cost of top end speed. This means your engine revs higher at the same speed. Having said that a final drive of 5.1 would increase engine revs by about 800rpm @ 110km/h so not that big an increase but on the freeway as the OP mentioned you'd be "cruising" at 4,200rpm. Fuel economy obviously suffers with this. The pursuit of speed always brings compromises.

If your going to race it as you say I'd go for the 4.7. It will be the best compromise for what you want. You could change the gearbox ratios but that is a costly exercise.

What will the difference be with the 4.7 an with closer gearing, if anyone can be bothered can you please write or give me link to speed per gear and stuff like that, also what will the difference be in the 1/4 compared to standard.
Thanks

closer gear set. Will cost more to install but well worth it. Final drive will make the car accelerate quicker but will cost top end, but the gear spacing will be the same.

team-integra article was a good read - cleared most of your q's and more straight up.

So hypothetically,
1st gear ratio = 4.0:1
FD = 4.9
4.0:1 = motor turns to driveshaft rotation.
Driveshaft turns 4.9 times for 1 rotation of the wheels.
If you were running the (4.7 FD) - doesnt this mean that the driveshaft would have to turn less to get the same wheels spinning the same amounf of times?
:S??

The higher the Final drive the more times it will spin in relation the the wheels, hence faster acceleration but lower top speed.
