hey guys..

Just wondering how much it would cost to get a K20 engine.. My brothers thinking of getting a cheap EG to mount a K20 engine into it.. so we were just wondering how much the whole project might end up costing and what might need to be taken into consideration.. and would a K24 be mountable into an EG? and would it be a better alternative?

cheers

both would be.. as long as your willing to fork out around 15k for the engine swap and stuff thats covering all the parts and labour though.. not including the car! be a good idea.. as long as u have the money =]

Honda will never again produce a car as good as the EG in my opinion.
Each to there own. Id take a K-series powered EG over a new DC5, CTR or Euro anyday.. Thats just me though i guess.\

You are correct though when you say it's worth more than the car's worth. This definately is an expensive project and something you should definately not want to make money off IMO.

Ive spent between $25,000 - $30,000 on my K24A/EG project and its just nearing completion. I predict i need to spend about another $2000 for various items and it will be complete. That includes the cost of my EG (was non EFi) and a few cosmetic parts such as rims/CF hood/CF spoiler/Recaros etc etc... I also completely upgraded my brakes and suspension with things like ITR 5-lug brakes, coilovers etc...

I think you need a budget of 20 - 30k to get this thing right. You could do a real budget swap though i guess... Me personally, i like to try and get things right the first time around and not skimp out on things and cut corners.

If you dont have the dedication to do such a swap and more importantly, the willingness to spend a large sum like i have mentioned, then look elsewhere. Possibly a b16a/b18c or another of the many options available.

20-30k first thing that comes to mind is deposit on a house

personally i wish i had a k series, but its not worth the money and time unless ur want optimum 1/4 mile, dyno etc. if u intend for mainly street use ud be better off spending on a b-series or h-series.
is it really worth spending around 6k on a b18c dat can 13sec or twice that around 12-13k or more on a k-series that would run around 12sec.

c'mon guys..

i started off with a delsol that i bought for 10k stock as a rock lol..

then i started working on that but wasnt quick enought.. so i worked on some prices for a k swap.. which i started saving for straight away...
it wasnt hard saving but the funny thing is i never thought id have spent 35k+ on my ride or even see 35k of my own..i never thought id see my car as far as its come today..

people think guys with k swapped cars are ballers but its really not its just when i wanted to do it, i saved very hard not going out as much and things so..Guys one thing i can tell you, is if u want it badly save for it cause dam its worth seeing peoples faces when they see something not done ever day like a B series in a civic WOW lol not teasing anyone but c'mon man its not that crazy lol...

as i said SAVE for it. ITS WORHT EVERY CENT.....

K SERIES FOR THE WIN...

btw prob not relivent but yea....

15k is alot to be spending on a motor swap.
35k, that aint called saving up, its called eating eggs and noodles for a whole damn yr!! lol

your most likely right, I have never been in a K powered eg/ek and if I was, I'll probs say its definately worth it too.

buy a used already swapped eg k20
save you a whole lot of money time and effort
its a no brainer really,
do it yourself and flush money down toilet or buy one already running fine with the hard work already done

VTi_b0i
22-03-2008, 11:36 AM
only problem with buying one already done is you really have no idea how well its been done or if corners had been cut etc or for that matter if the car is reliable

mr_vtec
22-03-2008, 12:30 PM
thats why i done mine myself rather then buy a civic that every tom dick and harry has lol... eg k swapped...
i went delsol k swapped never been done in oz but my carr woot woot..
anyways i think we should make a thread just for k swapped cars..

I say the majority of people here could do such a swap but they wont because they wont spend this kind of money on their car.

My opinion is you are only young once and you have around 40 yers of work until retirement.

If you have the dedication and a K-swap is what you want, it isnt that much out of reach. People say its a waste of money, many things in life are a waste of money. Mine's cost me $10k a year for 3 years.. The true enthusiasts go ahead with their automotive dreams.

all well and good that you guys can justify the money but still haven't convinced me. I guess at the end of the day it's a car a method of transport that takes you from a to b doesn't matter how much u spend on it because on the road u have rules to follow. And with seeing these recent thefts it makes me wonder because most ppl here can't even afford comprehensive insurance yet are prepared to fork out heaps of cash.. Didn't mean to start a discussion but makes no sense to me

It wouldnt change my opinion.

20k is still a lump sum payment on my mortgage or a deposit for another house to me

Justification is up to the individual.

for a married person with a child and another expecting, like Ms vtec ****, its a no brainer.

For the post teeny-bopper (and that accounts for 95% here), y0ung, dumb, full of energy and will do any crazy thing to fulfill their crazy passion for excitement, HELL YEAH, ITS WORTH IT:D

there are ppl like me, smack bang right in the middle, I love modifying my car, but I do what is justified to myself and no one else:)

b4 anyone jumps the gun and starts flaming me, let me just say that I did put up a lot of generalizations up

just for fun:)

it depends where you're at. if you got a decent income and your meeting mortgage repayments and u got chunks of money leftover that for some reason your not dumping into other passions like golf, sport, 10k plasma tv, or back into the mortgage; then a expensive car enthusiast passion is good

i personally would LOVE a k24/k20 in my EK boosted; i am the kinda guy thatll go to that extreme, but i wanna wait till uni is over; full time job and then by that stage when ur working full time (esp as uni graduate with few years experience) 10-15k is not that much compared to when ur 20 like me and still at uni

80k before tax, how much would it be after tax? Also if you have a 300k-400k mortage thats around 25k + of repayment one yr leaving with around 60% of salary left. Then got all those expenses like bills, cars, food and blah blah blah.
