Am getting conflicting information from the insurance company and the Queensland Transport website about vehicle modifications. It's abit confusing.
Basically I was considering lowering my car by 2" and getting some 17" rims on it. The insurance company (RACQ GIO) said it is illegal to lower a car by 2" and the limit is only 1.5". The rims, as long as they are worth less than $2000, is OK and won't affect the premium. Riiight, I thought.
So I jumped on the QLD Transport website for a look. According to this link: www.transport.qld.gov.au...odifications.pdf, to lower a car, it can't be less than 100mm clearance under the car. It does not mention 1.5" anywhere. So I interpret this as long as the undercarriage is 100mm or above, it is legal. Whether or not this equates to a 1.5" drop I don't know yet, I'll have to measure it out.
It's abit difficult to understand, doesn't seem clear-cut. Does someone know from your own experience what can and can't be done to satisfy the law and insurance?
