Thermostat has been shitting me for a while, especially when driving on the freeway, so I took the plunge and got it replaced, as well as my thermofan checked out and new wiring.

Cost me $107.50 all up and I'm as happy as a pig in shit. :D

This prolly belongs in the lounge, but it is civic related :P

Couldn't replace it myself.

I was in Shepparton for the weekend and the thermo decided to fully die while I was there. No way I could have made it back as it was the weekend. Had to borrow my uncles car to get home to Melb for stuff I had to do on Monday. Going back to Shepparton tonight to pick up the civ.

i've noticed when i drive over 80, my temperatue needle is ALL the way up BUT when i pop the bonnet, my engine is NOT even that hot, thus i changed my thermostat.

i got my thermostat as well as thermostat HOUsing (because it corroded) for $90

Symptoms:
Driving around town at 50 to 80 kmph would not affect my temp gauge at all, it would just sit normally. But open up on a freeway to 100/110kmph and the needle would rise within 5 minutes all the way to hot.

Process of elimination:
6 months ago I had my water pump replaced because it needed it, and at the same time my radiator pressure tested, so both were sweet as. New pump and a ok radiator.

Few more testers:
Long ago I had bought a TRUST radiator cap cause I wanted to be cool, and I replaced it with the stock Honda one, not long ago as it had a higher pressure rating, plus the seal on the stock one was old.

Before I changed the thermostat, I tried the age old method of banging it with a screwdriver/hammer combo, but that didn't work :P

Thermo fan?
Thermo fan had gotten to a stage where it wouldn't even turn on at all and I restricted myself from driving anywhere over 80kmph.

Solution:
Having a decent radiator without a problem, new water pump, new radiator cap, process of elimination was that it was the thermostat.

Fix it now!
Completely shat itself while in Shepparton on the weekend, so I had the thermostat replaced, plus the wiring for the thermofan replaced. Had family members drive it for me and they said it was good as new

THE END. :D
